The film for Borderlands was already announced in 2015. After a long silence about the project there is finally a new sign of life. Apparently, Oscar winner Cate Blanchett ("The Lord of the Rings: The Companions", "Ocean's 8") was cast for the role of Lilith. This is based on reports from Variety

As has been known for some time, it will be directed by Eli Roth, who is known for his work on "Cabin Fever" and "Hostel". Rumor has it that none of the storylines from the game series should be filmed. Instead, a story from a parallel universe could be implemented with the same characters.
An exciting question of the production will be to what extent the filming will be based on the unique art style of the games. With Cate Blanchett, at least the foundation stone would be laid for solid acting.
