Pokémon GO became a worldwide phenomenon after the 2016 release and put on ridiculous numbers. The number of players decreased noticeably in the meantime, but in one category the past year 2019 even went one better!

After the first hype about Pokémon GO in 2016, the number of players and sales fell noticeably. Even if the augmented reality title continued to enjoy great importance in the period that followed, the biggest wave of success seemed over. 2019 turned out to be an absolute success year for Niantic and The Pokémon Company, which even makes the successful launch year look old.
Like the analysts from Sensor tower Now in a report, Pokémon GO has generated a whopping 894 million US dollars in sales in the past calendar year. According to their own surveys, the mobile hit is now – as crazy as it may sound – even more successful in terms of sales than in the hype year of 2016.
One may object that Pokémon GO 2016 was not available for the entire calendar year, but reaching the new high for the year is more than remarkable for the game. This makes Pokémon GO one of the most profitable mobile games ever, even after more than three years.
Worldwide, the title came fifth in the sales list of all games, in the AR sector the title is the undisputed leader. The closest thing to the Niantic title is Dragon Quest Walk in second place, which, however, achieved a comparatively manageable $ 201 million in sales. Niantic's own competitor Harry Potter: With $ 23 million in sales, Wizards Unite was much less popular with gamers willing to pay.
As for Pokémon GO, 54 percent of 2019 sales were generated on Google Play, Apple's App Store brought it to 46 percent. As expected, the largest market is the United States, but in addition to Japan, Germany also follows in the other ranks.
