Before we devote ourselves to the well-groomed skull massage, we take care of the exterior and the Corsair HS60 Haptic can collect a few points. The basis is an aluminum-reinforced metal headband, on the forks of which the two ear cups are minimally rotatable. The headband is provided with memory foam pads under a quilted synthetic leather cover.
The oval, quite spacious ear cups also come with foam pads and synthetic leather cover, which in total ensures a firm fit and little lateral pressure. The side panels consist of a metal grille, the housings of the ear cups have a white-gray camo look – a matter of taste. The USB connection cable is permanently installed, there are no other connection options. The microphone arm, on the other hand, is removable and can be stably positioned thanks to the wire mesh. A foam pop protection is also on board.
The quality of workmanship appears robust and durable, as one is used to from Corsair. The controls are clear. On the left auricle there is a button for the microphone and a volume control. On the right auricle is the setting controller for the strength of the haptic effect, which can thus be continuously adjusted. You can make further fine adjustments via the software. There you can select and create presets, an equalizer is available. You won’t find any lighting options, the HS60 Haptic does not need colored lights.
Inside the stereo headset, 50 mm drivers are installed, which work in the standard frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The exciting feature is the feel of Taction Technology. The same ensures that low tones are chased through the mussels not only acoustically, but also as vibration in the range from 15Hz to 85kHz, and that without noticeable delay.
Shots, explosions, helicopters flying by or approaching vehicles are not only audible, the sound is additionally amplified by the vibration of the ear cups, so that you have not only acoustic but also haptic feedback. It is nice that the same can be continuously adapted to your own taste. It is a pity that the effect strength cannot be linked to profiles in the iCUE software.
The effect is indeed remarkable in action games and greatly increases the immersion in any battles. Action hits like Call of Duty, Destiny or Battlefield are more intense than ever. However, the haptic feedback is not useful in all areas. We found it rather annoying with quieter tracks or even music, but in such cases you can throttle it or switch it off completely.
Corsair – HS60 HAPTIC Gaming Headset – Sound You Can Feel
CORSAIR launches a new HS Series PC headset: the CORSAIR HS60 HAPTIC. Compared to loudspeakers, the HS60 HAPTIC has a particularly deep, rich sound character. The reason for this is the “haptic bass” developed by Taction Technology.
In terms of sound, the HS60 Haptic does not convince us in all areas and you can tell that Corsair did not use the highest quality drivers in favor of the price. The sound is heavily designed for gaming. The bass is quite crisp, but this also depends a lot on the strength of the haptic effect selected. If the haptic effect is turned down, the bass becomes a bit unspectacular. The mids could use a bit more power, the highs are clearly lacking in brilliance and clarity, which is why reaching for the equalizer in the software is inevitable. Even the preset presets are not convincing in all respects.
We tested the headset and its settings in several scenarios and game genres, as well as for music and films, and were actually only satisfied with action titles. Only then can the interaction of drivers and haptic technology really shine. If you have a lot of shooters or action games on your list, you can be very happy with the HS60. The headset is certainly not the first choice for quieter games or frequent music listeners.
The microphone makes a pleasant impression and ensures clean voice transmission without disturbing background noise. Not the best microphone ever, but at least better than average. It is nice that there is also an adjustable microphone monitoring, i.e. you can also hear your own voice, if you want.
