Sony bans accounts sharing the PlayStation Plus collection for PS4

To improve PlayStation Plus subscriptions for early PS5 owners, Sony launched the PlayStation Plus Collection, a service within the service that allows you to download a selection of PS4 hits at no additional cost. Some PS5 users have found a way to upgrade this privilege to players who are still on PS4. Unsurprisingly, Sony doesn’t like the scheme.

, report bans on “shared” PSN accounts for the benefit of PS4 users of the games in the PlayStation Plus collection. As mentioned earlier, PS5 subscribers to PlayStation Plus have “free” access to the PlayStation Plus collection, a catalog of around twenty PS4 games. Once downloaded, these games can be used on a PS4.

This offer quickly gave rise to ideas for intelligent PS5 players. The latter have actually started selling their PSN accounts to PS4 users so that they can download the games to their computers.

Among those affected was a PS5 owner who had undertaken to sell this access to Malaysian PS4 players for around 7 dollars (The PS5 isn’t even officially available in Malaysia yet). And according to some reports, some of the people involved in this scam managed to sell their account access to more than 50 “customers”.

Of course, Sony absolutely does not tolerate such practices (which, aside from the obvious commercial dimensions, are far from ideal in terms of data security). As stated above, the Japanese manufacturer distributed the bans. Those found guilty of selling access to their account have found it to be permanently banned. The “customers” who have used this system to restore the PS4 games to their console have a two-month ban on them.
