Destiny 2 Challenge Season – also known as Season 20 – inaugurates the arrival of Destiny 2: Lightfall.
Lightfall is a major expansion for Destiny 2 and as such will bring a new story-driven campaign, new areas to explore, a new subclass for Guardians, and a number of additional updates. Season of Defiance will be the first of several limited-time seasons during Lightfall, each with its own set of seasonal activities.
There’s also the usual power level boost and new Exotics to look forward to.
This is when Season 20 will end and everything we know about what he spends in the first part of Destiny 2: Lightfall

Destiny 2 Season of Defiance roadmap
The Season 20 roadmap, which should take us from February to the end of May, includes the following confirmed activities:
- Tuesday, February 28: Destiny 2: Lightfall is launched, and with it the season of Defiance.
In addition to the above, Guardians can expect more Iron Banner and Trial of Osiris. The Guardian Games traditionally take place in April and should arrive around the middle of Season 20.
What’s new in Destiny 2 Season of Defiance?
Destiny 2 Season 20 brings a number of significant changes, including new Guardian subclasses, a new campaign, changes to Umbral Engrams, and seasonal currencies.
Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect:
- New Strand-based subclasses for Guardians.
- Umbral engrams and energies will be removed and replaced with seasonal engrams. These can be focused using glow and will be stored or tracked on seasonal vendors.
- Seasonal currencies are disappearing and will be replaced by individual keys that thwart enhanced rewards at the end of seasonal activities.
- Improved base rewards at the end of seasonal activities to make completed races without keys meaningful.
Destiny 2 Season of Defiance end date: When will season 20 end?
Destiny 2 Seasons traditionally last three months. Although an official end date for Season 20 has not been announced, it is expected to fall on a Tuesday around late May or early April.
Season of the Seraph is here alongside More Than a Weapon, Seraph Key Codes and Resonate Stems and the addition of Rose in Crucible. You can also complete the Good Boy Protocol secret quest to make a new friend. We also saw a new dungeon, Spire of the Watcher, with a chance of the Hierarchy of Needs dropping at the end. Earlier this year we had the arrival of the King’s Fall and King’s Fall challenges, as well as weapons such as Doom of Chelchis and Touch of Malice. For The Witch Queen, find out how to get Dead Messenger and Parasite.
What do you need to do before the Defiance season ends?
Like every season, there is a list of things to do before the end of the season. This includes:
- Claim all Season Titles you have earned.
- Watch the end of the seasonal scenario. Usually this doesn’t require you to complete the season quest – for season 19 it was more than a weapon.
- Reach Legend Rank in any matchmaking activity – Crucible, Gambit, or Strikes – and redeem their vendor-specific rewards.
- Use all remaining Season Pass rewards in all classes.
- Have a few completed bounties ready, as well as max out relevant materials and Glimmer, to give you a head start for the start of next season.
With several months to get everything you need, there should hopefully be plenty of time. Have fun challenging The Witness in the meantime!
