What is the final form?
Destiny 2 The Final Shape is the last known expansion in the Light and Dark saga, the current era of Destiny. It marks the beginning of the end of the original Destiny storyline and will include several episodes spread over time. This will ultimately lead to the final confrontation between The Witness, the main villain of the Destiny universe, and the Guardians chosen by the Traveler.
It will also mark the beginning of the era of new subclass: Prismatic. This will allow players to combine the power of Light and Dark, mixing and matching abilities in the process. Each Guardian class will also see one of its existing subclasses gain a new super capacitylike the Storm’s Edge ability for Arc Hunters.
Historically, Destiny 2 is updated throughout the year with a single major expansion and several smaller seasonal updates. Destiny 2’s The Final Shape expansion was originally scheduled for February 2024, but it was delayed to June 4. This expansion will include a full campaign, a new Raid, a new Strike, the return of many previously retired weapons and the introduction of a new Power system, where lower level Guardians can be temporarily buffed by playing with players of higher level. This will make high-level activities much more accessible to everyone.
Destiny 2 Final Form Roadmap
The seasonal update model will disappear as part of this expansion. Instead of four seasons, there will be a trio of three-act episodes spread over the following year. Each will feature new stories, exotic weapons, and exotic missions. The battle pass will be overhauled as part of this. Each new episode will introduce a new 100 level pass, with the second and third acts each adding an additional 50 levels to complete.
The main event of The Final Shape’s launch will be its expansive campaign. However, this extension contains much more than just narrative content.
Destiny players can expect the following at or near the start of The Final Shape:
- New Supers for Arc Hunters, Void Titans and Solar Warlocks
- Prismatic, a new subclass that combines the abilities of the Light and Dark subclasses.
- 21 Prismatic Shards with unique perks and abilities to aid in combat
- The Pale Heart, a brand new destination
- The Dread, a brand new enemy faction under the control of The Witness
- New Exotic Weapons
- Two dungeons will debut during the year of The Final Shape
- Return of classic weapons, like Red Death and Dragon’s Breath
- The end of the weapon timeout
- Salvation’s Edge, a brand new Raid
- A new strike taking place in The Traveler
- Exotic class items, which combine the effects of several other exotic armors
- Thoughts on the timeline, short playable missions to help you catch up on Destiny’s story.
- Squad Power, allowing lower level players to temporarily strengthen themselves while playing with higher level Guardians.
That’s a lot to do with The Final Shape, and below we have more details on some of its most interesting additions:
Prismatic subclass
Prismatic is the first new subclass since Strand’s introduction in The Witch Queen. The idea of Prismatic is that it allows hunters, warlocks, and titans to mix and match abilities from the Light and Dark subclasses. A Hunter, for example, could use the massive super Silence and Squall from the Stasis subclass, along with burning knives from the Solar subclass. This will allow for some very unique builds, especially as players make the most powerful combinations.
Prismatic Guardians will also have access to new grenades with combined energies. The titles benefit from the Electrified Trap, an Arc/Strand hybrid that suspends enemies in the air and electrocutes them. Warlocks gain the Icy Singularity, which can create Void-powered black holes surrounded by frozen stasis crystals. Hunters have Hailfire Spike, a grenade that slows enemies with Stasis energy before exploding in a storm of solar energy.
The Dread’s introduction
The Dread are a brand new enemy faction, something we haven’t seen since the Scorn’s debut in Destiny 2 Forsaken. The Tormentors come from this group, which also includes the strand-wielding Harbingers and Weavers, as well as the flying Grim. This is The Witness’s true personal army.
The end of the weapon timeout
The weapon timeout, which rendered some weapons useless due to power caps, is ending. This is a major change from how Destiny 2 worked historically. Previously, each season increased in power level and many weapons, especially the most popular options in the first year, could not reach a high enough level to be useful. Now all weapons will be able to reach usable power, so forgotten favorite weapons like “The Recluse” will be back on the battlefield. However, that doesn’t mean there will be a way to earn every weapon that has ever existed in Destiny 2. If you’ve dismantled an outdated classic to make room in your vault, you might not have be unlucky.
Power Level Changes
The importance of power level for goalies is also evolving. The campaign and public areas will no longer require you to level up to be able to experience them at their intended difficulty. Fireteam Power, meanwhile, is a new system in which the highest level person on a fireteam will give a boost to everyone else in their party. This means that playing with lower level friends will be viable.
New Exotics
Many new exotic weapons will also be available in The Final Shape:
- Balance of Power – Hunter Leg Armor
- Ergo Sum – Sword
- Essentialism – Hunter’s Cloak
- Gifted Conviction – Hunter’s Chest
- Dangerous Propulsion – Titan’s Chest
- Khostov 7G-0X – Automatic rifle
- Mataiodoxia – Warlock Chest
- Microcosm – Trace Rifle
- Red Death Reformed – Pulse Rifle
- Speaker View – Warlock Helm
- Solipsism – Warlock Bond
- Still Hunt – Sniper Rifle
- Stoicism – Titan Mark
- Tessellation – Fusion Rifle
- Pious Ignorance – Titan Gloves
New episodic structure
Each of the new episodes will take place over three acts, with acts airing every six weeks. They will contain new story content, new exotic missions, and exotic weapons and armor. The first episode is called Echoes, followed by Revenant and Heresy during The Final Shape.
As always, we’ll have comprehensive guides to help you navigate content, unlock new weapons, and take on challenging missions. While you’re gearing up, don’t forget to visit the Pantheon, pick up a nice Hammerhead God Roll, and take in a few rounds of Onslaught for good measure.
