the swarm is a legendary heavy machine gun in Destiny 2. It originally arrived during Chosen Season and was brought back as part of Challenge Season.
This heavy weapon focuses on hitting hard rather than fast, emphasizing impact and high damage over rate of fire.
This page will detail how to get the swarm in Destiny 2, and what to look for in a The Swarm god roll.

How to get The Swarm in Destiny 2
The Swarm is a Nightfall Weaponavailable exclusively when due during the Nightfall rotation.
Farming The Swarm is all about timing. Each week, the featured weapon available at the end of a Nightfall changes. In the Season of Defiance Nightfall rotation, six different weapons can drop, including The Swarm.
Whether the weapon drops is a matter of luck, but you have the ability to tip the scales in your favor. Increasing the difficulty also increases the Nightfall weapon’s drop chance, from Rare at the lowest difficulty to Common at the highest.
You can also equip the Ghost mod Prosperity (Vanguard). This gives Playlist Strikes and Nightfalls a chance to drop additional Legendary gear upon completion. This has never been confirmed to include the Nightfall weapons themselves, but anecdotally it seems to have an effect.
Season of Defiance is here alongside the We Stand Unbroken quest. You can also unlock two new weapons – the Vexcaliber and Deterministic Chaos – by completing The Variable and Unfinished Business. Don’t forget to keep an eye on the rotation schedule for the Lost Sector and King’s Fall challenges!
The Swarm god roll commendation in Destiny 2
The Swarm is a damage inflicting monster. It is exceptionally suited for taking down champions and DPSing bosses.
The Swarm is designed to hit hard with every shot. This makes it a good choice for clearing a room of adds, and exceptional for targeted damage to bosses. An ideal or “god roll” version of The Swarm uses the continuous fire of heavy machine guns to make it a deadlier weapon the longer it stays on a target
here is our Recommended The Swarm God Scroll in Destiny 2:
- Arrowhead
- Tactical loader
- Dynamic sway reduction
- target lock
- Superb recovery
Arrowhead is a frequent favorite barrel, and perfect for The Swarm. The recoil control makes it easier to maintain accuracy over long periods of sustained fire, and the increased maneuverability makes it more viable for encounters against multiple targets as an additional clearance tool.
Tactical loader is tall. It improves stability, further improves accuracy, improves reload speed, which this weapon needs, and adds four rounds to the magazine. Shoot better longer? Yes please.
Dynamic sway reduction This is where things start to get really good. The longer this weapon fires, the more accurate and stable it becomes. This is good against any hard target, but raid bosses in particular tend to have clearly established damage phases. Accurately unloading all of your rounds at the right time is huge for maximizing damage.
target lock is the perfect complement to Dynamic Sway Reduction. With this perk, damage increases the longer your weapon stays on target. With everything else built to create sustained and accurate fire, this becomes extremely powerful against even the toughest foes.
Superb recovery is one of two selectable original traits. None of the options are exceptional, but Stunning Recovery is excellent in certain situations. With it, stunning a champion will partially refill your magazine, increase recovery, and trigger health regeneration. It’s very situational, but fighting Champions is exactly the kind of situation where it’s nice to have an advantage.
As usual, once you have your favorite jet, be sure to upgrade it to a Masterwork to give it a stat boost, the ability to generate orbs on multiple kills, and add the option of a kill tracker!
