Catch or retrieve a thermal fish is one of the seasonal challenges of Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2.
To complete the quest, you must either use a fishing rod to catch a thermal fish or find one among the loot.
Completing this challenge will reward you with 20K XP, which will help you unlock new Battle Pass skins.

How to catch a thermal fish in Fortnite
Although the challenge description states that Thermal Fish prefers Pro fishing rods, you only need a standard fishing rod to catch a thermal fish in Fortnite.
The description refers to the rarest versions, such as the Silver or Raven type. The purple and orange thermal fish, however, are very common and can be found anywhere.
However, that doesn’t mean it’s a guaranteed catch, so it’s recommended that you start your search for a hot spring fish in an area that has plenty of fishing grounds. We recommend the large lake which is to the east of the Fortress.
Land on the north side of the small island in the middle of the lake and grab a fishing rod from one of the barrels on the wooden pier. Then look for all the white circular areas of the lake to cast your line in and start looking for a thermal fish.
If you catch a thermal fish and it doesn’t score the challenge, try to pick it up and consume it.
Chapter 3 Season 2 is here! New additions include cow catchers, red and blue lines across the Fortnite map, and rebuild quests, including finding and destroying an IO build jammer and recovering missing battle bus blueprints. There are also resistance quests to complete, including deploying water relays and transmitting data to a drone. Jetpacks are also back! Meanwhile, the Victory Crowns and Character Collection have been reset, while there’s a new Victory Umbrella to find.
How to collect thermal fish in Fortnite
Thermal Fish can also be found as loot, most often in Ice machines or ice coolers. Much like chests, however, they’re not a guaranteed spawn, so it’s best to visit an area with multiple ice machines or coolers. Gas stations and restaurants tend to have ice machines inside or just outside their buildings.
We recommend going to the gas station southwest of the IO Airship in Rocky Reels. There are three possible spawn locations for Ice Machines in this area.
the first ice machine is next to the vending machine outside the gas station.
the second ice machine can be found in the basement of the building to the west of the gas station.
the third ice machine the location is in the building bar west of the gas station, across from a Bounty Board.
If none of these locations have thermal fish, you can either quit the match and try again, or visit other gas stations around the map in search of other ice machines.
