How to configure a dedicated server in Enshrouded

Enshrouded Dedicated Servers let you play with up to 16 friends.

It’s a bit tricky to set up a server if it’s your first time, that’s why we explained it to you how to configure a dedicated server And how to join a dedicated server in Enshrouded below, including how to port forward and what the recommended system requirements are for playing on servers.

How to configure a dedicated server in Enshrouded

Currently, dedicated servers are only supported on Windows. Linux support is planned for a future update.

Here is how to configure a dedicated server in Enshrouded:

1. Download Enshrouded.
2. Download a separate Enshrouded Dedicated Server executable from the “Tools” section of your Steam library.
3. Instead of clicking the “Launch” button, right-click on the dedicated server wrapped in the tools list and select “Properties”.



4. Select the “Installed Files” tab and click “Browse” to open the executable folder, then launch the enshrouded_server application.
5. After launching enshrouded_server once, it will create a file called “enshrouded_server.json” in the same folder, and this file can then be opened with any text editor to configure your dedicated server.

Once you have completed the steps above, open “enshrouded_server.json” with your text editor of choice (we opted for simple Notepad) and write the following in each line of text in quotes :

• Name – “Insert your server name here”.
• Password – “Insert your server password here”.
• saveDirectory – “Insert the name of the folder you want to save your world to” (this is optional, as it defaults to ‘./savegame’).
• journalDirectory – “Insert the name of the folder you want to use to store log files” (this is also optional, as it defaults to ‘./logs’).
• IP – “Insert your IPv4 address”.
• game port – “May change to match your firewall settings”.
• query port – “May change to match your firewall settings”.
• number of locations – “Insert as many players as you want on your server” (choose a number between one and 16).

To get your IPv4, open the command prompt and type “ipconfig”, then copy and paste it into the “enshrouded_server.json” document. Keep the default “gamePort” and “queryPort” numbers unless you need to change them for firewall reasons.

Firewall

The next step is to ensure that other players can join your server while playing on the same local area network (LAN) as you. It’s important to note that this depends a lot on your firewall software and router choice. We therefore cannot give dedicated instructions to everyone. We recommend instead find a guide for your specific firewall software and router.

Port forwarding

You also need to do port forwarding for a dedicated server to work in Enshrouded. Again, the exact instructions for doing this depend on your specific router, so we can’t be too specific, but we can give you an idea of ​​what you need to do.

Here is a general explanation for how to forward port for Enshrouded:

1. Find the port forwarding section for your router settings.
2. Create a new rule for Enshrouded.
3. Name the new rule and enter your IPv4 address (or select your device from a drop-down menu).
4. Select the “TCP” and “UDP” options and add the number “15636” to the port forwarding.

Depending on your router provider, you may need to enter port numbers separately, and sometimes as a range.

You can now open the Enshrouded Dedicated Server app while playing Enshrouded to access your dedicated server! Keep the command window open while playing to keep your server active.

Remember, open your dedicated server from the ‘enshrouded_server’ application in the EnshroudedServer folder on Windows, not by launching in Steam. This prevents some weird server issues, including your server not showing up when searching for it. You can find this folder by right-clicking the Enshrouded Dedicated Server in the tools list and selecting “Properties”, going to the “Installed Files” tab, then clicking “Browse”.

If you find that your dedicated server is not working for some reason, try forwarding the port number ‘15637” as well as in a different rule, by resetting your router or verifying that you write the same numbers in the “gamePort” and “queryPort” sections of the “enshrouded_server.json”. If you have changed these numbers for your firewall, you may need to enter the new numbers instead.

If this doesn’t work, there is probably a problem with your firewall settings. Although we do not recommend doing this, you can completely disable your firewall application to force your Enshrouded server to run.

How to join a dedicated server in Enshrouded

Joining a dedicated server in Enshrouded is simple, as all you have to do is:

1. From the main menu, select the character you want to use, then click “Play.”
2. Select the “Join” option, then “Search Server Name” on the right side.
3. Type the name of the server you want to join.
4. Click “Join” and enter the password for this server if it has been configured.
5. Enjoy playing on a dedicated server with up to 16 people!

You can also press the star button next to a server to find it faster next time.

Remember, if you are the host and you can’t see your server – even if you know you are typing its correct name – you need to launch your dedicated server from the “enshrouded_server” application in the folder EnshroudedServer on Windows, not directly from Steam.

If you created a server, you can change its name, password, and maximum number of players allowed at any time by opening the “enshrouded_server.json” file as a text file and editing the text in inverted commas.

System Requirements for a Wrapped Dedicated Server

Taken from the official Enshrouded Server FAQ, here’s the hardware you need to play with four to six players on a dedicated server in Enshrouded:

• Intel Core i7 processor with 3.2 GHz or AMD equivalent / 6 cores (12 threads)
• 16 GB of RAM
• SDD storage with at least 30 GB free space for installation.
• Up to 100 MB for each additional saved world.
• Internet connection: per player, a download capacity of 2 mbit/s is recommended. Upload capacity should roughly match upload capacity.

To run a dedicated server capable of handling 16 players in Enshrouded you need:

• Intel Core i7 processor with 3.7 GHz or AMD equivalent / 8 cores (16 threads)
• 16 GB of RAM
• SDD storage with at least 30 GB free space for installation
• Up to 100 MB for each additional saved world
• Internet connection: per player, a download capacity of 2 mbit/s is recommended. Upload capacity should roughly match upload capacity.
