How to Get Whispering Obols in Diablo 4
All the ways we know you can get whispering obols in Diablo 4 are:
- Global Events
- Dungeon Events
- Cellar events
- Quest Rewards
- Whispering Caches
Global Events
The best way to get Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4 is to complete events. The most common events are world events, marked with an orange circle on your map, but their occurrence is not guaranteed.
However, unless you’re having server issues, there’s probably a World Event somewhere on the map, so keep an eye out for that orange circle if you want a quick way to get more Whispering Obols. Just keep in mind that world bosses like Ashava don’t count as world events.
It should also be noted that if you complete the bonus objective, you get even more Obols. The exact amounts vary depending on what World Tier you’re playing on, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the right side of the screen during a World Event to see what the bonus objective is.
Dungeon and Cave Events
Dungeon and Cellar Events mostly work exactly the same as World Events, but there are bonus dungeon activities like Cursed Chests, Cursed Shrines, and the Terrifying Butcher that don’t seem to reward Whispering Obols in our experience. So stick to completing the objectives in the orange circles if you’re only looking for obols.
Quest Rewards
We also have whispering obols by completing side quests like the secret of spring, but these can be random rewards.
Whispering Caches
Opening quest chests and talking with NPCs to complete side quests will sometimes give you whispering obols, but you’ll also need to claim them from time to time by opening whispering caches from your inventory.
We only received Whisper Caches as side quest rewards, but it may be possible to get them from other sources as well.
How to Upgrade Murmuring Obols Ability in Diablo 4
It’s a good idea to continually spend your Obols as you get them, as they’re quite easy to farm with events, and they have a max cap, so you can’t just save them all and spend at the same time.
However, you can keep them longer if you increase your maximum Obol limit. To improve your Murmuring Obols ability in Diablo 4, you need to claim renown rewards and find certain Lilith Altar Statues.
However, the Renown Obol ability upgrade isn’t available until you unlock World Tier 3, so if you’re just starting out, we recommend finding Altars of Lilith instead of mining Renown. to increase your Murmuring Obol ability.
