How to pressure an enemy in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
You have to cause enough damage using attacks that an enemy is weak to in order to put pressure on an enemy in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. To see what each enemy is weak to, equip a character with the Assessment Material, then use an ATB Charge to activate it once. Next, check their weakness in the upper right corner and their description in yellow text on the left side. After rating an enemy once, press the PS5 controller’s touchpad to return to that enemy’s rating menu at any time without wasting an ATB charge.
Generally, the more powerful an ability or spell, the faster an enemy will be put under pressure. So, Blizzara is preferable to using Blizzard if the enemy is weak to ice. Using multiple abilities and spells that the enemy is weak to in quick succession is also a good way to quickly put pressure on an enemy.
You will know that an enemy has been pressured when the word “Pressure” appears under their health bar.
Now the tricky part about pressuring certain enemies is that they have difficult pressure methods. For the most part, you can check what type of magic an enemy is weak to, then use powerful spells of that type multiple times to put pressure on an enemy.
For example, Quetzalcoatl is weak to ice, so you need to use Blizzard spells, summon Shiva, or abilities like Snow Flurry that deal ice damage. The stronger the spell, the less time it takes to pressure Quetzalcoatl. Then, when Quetzalcoatl is under pressure, you can continue to use ice moves to quickly build the Stagger bar, or switch to characters like Tifa who can build the Stagger bar quickly with their powerful moveset. When the bar is filled, Quetzalcoatl will be staggered. This is your opportunity to use your strongest moves like Limit Breaks and Synergy Abilities (or more Ice Attacks) to take out a huge chunk of Quetzalcoatl’s HP.
However, a more difficult enemy like the Tonberry King requires a bit more thought and timing, as it has no elemental weakness. He can only be put under pressure by using powerful attacks when his own attacks miss your party. For other enemies, you must dodge or parry their attacks, or use synergy abilities to put them under pressure. The Thunderclaw even requires you to use status effects like poison to put him under pressure.
If you don’t see a weakness on the right side of the Assess menu, it will be explained in the yellow writing on the left side.
Good luck putting pressure on the enemies!
