Master Rank and its associated missions are the main reason to choose Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak.
Master Rank (or MR) is a lot tougher than what you’re used to in High Rank, and while there’s obvious overlap – with fan favorites like Anjanath and Rathian making a return in MR – the monsters that you know and love will become much more aggressive and break out attack patterns you’ve never seen before. Aknosom, for example, gets an extended combo and a much more aggressive flying kick.
You know what that means – grab a sword, a friend (Monster Hunter is best when someone else is the bait) and start swinging for the fences.

How to Unlock Master Rank in Monster Hunter Rise
Good news for those who want to get started quickly with Master Rank – MR1 automatically unlocks as soon as you complete the first Sunbreak mission
If you’re just beginning your Monster Hunter Rise journey, you can learn how to start Sunbreak to get to that point.
For those of you who haven’t played Monster Hunter 2 on PSP back in the days, Daimyo Hermataur is a big red crab that not only moans at you with its hammer-like claws, but shoots squirts of powerful water on you.
It’s a pretty easy fight – you have to because you’ll always have HR gear at best, and you can take it down immediately after beating Narwa with zero grind for better gear. However, if you’re struggling or like to be super prepared, bring a thunder element weapon and wear armor that provides high levels of water protection.
After defeating the big bad crab, events unfold and you find yourself in Elgado – an outpost for the Kingdom. You will be introduced to Admiral Galleus, the leader of said outpost, and Elgado’s response to Fugen.
Watch the cutscene and read the dialogue that follows, and you’ll automatically unlock Master Rank, placing you firmly at MR1 rank. It was easy.
You have also unlocked the Elgado Outpost mission hub. It works much the same as Kamura, and after a brief tutorial mission explaining how Switch Skills work, you’ll be able to switch between the two hubs – the Move Around the Village command has been replaced with an open world map much more elegant. option.
In addition to our Monster Hunter Rise tips, find out about High Rank, ore locations, bone locations, weapon types, Insect Glaives and Kinsects, how to join friends in multiplayer, how to capture monsters and learn more about wirebugs and big wirebugs. Meanwhile, when it comes to individual quests, we have explanations on where to find a Well Done Steak and a Rock Lizard.
How to Increase Your Master Rank in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
Increase your MR (or Rising if you will), is as easy as completing missions for your new central maiden, Chichae, the Quest Damsel. Yes, that’s his name. Yes I know.
All MR missions in the game can be found through the online quest hub. Don’t worry, you can do them offline and solo, but it’s always easier (and often more fun) with a friend.
Although Sunbreak adds a variety of single-player missions that unlock as you progress through MR, completing them does not affect your rank. Feel free to approach them as you wish!
Leveling in MR is exactly the same as in RH – complete a set number of key quests until you unlock an urgent quest, which is usually “go hunt a certain monster at a certain location”.
To help you out, our Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak walkthrough gives you a list of key and urgent quests in order.
