How to get new weapons in Like a Dragon Ishin
Before you can think about upgrading or crafting new weapons, you need to have basic ones in your inventory. It’s because you’re going need basic weapons to create new ones or upgrade them.
The easiest way to get new base weapons is to buy them from arms dealers. There is one in Mukurogaijust north of the Mahjong Spot:
The other arms dealer is in Umekojicho in Rakugaislightly northwest of Shady Bar:
You can also get weapons by defeat enemies in the streets, and find them during your adventures.
Location of Kurogane Smithing in Like a Dragon Ishin
You can access Kurogane Smithing from Chapter Three, as this is when you unlock Rakunai and the surrounding area.
Kurogane Smithing can be found in northern UmekojichoIn Rakunai.
We also know that there is a second blacksmith specializing in enchanted weapons, we will update this page as soon as we find them.
How to Craft New Equipment in Like a Dragon Ishin
To craft new equipment in Like a Dragon Ishin, you will need to visit a blacksmith.
Then, to craft any new basic gear, you will need:
- Basic equipment – You need it to be able to do something new.
- Materials – Each item needs a different amount/type of materials.
- Hammers – They are needed to craft any new piece of equipment.
- Money – Of course, new things don’t come cheap, so lots of cash is crucial.
Crafting new parts uses one of your existing items as a base for the new. So make sure you really want to replace the item you chose to upgrade, there is no going back after creating the new one.
When you are ready to make a new part, talk to the blacksmith.
Then select the ‘Arts and crafts’ option in the menu that appears, then select the item you want to create.
Once you have done this, you then need to select the element you want to use as a base. You can choose it from your inventory. However, you will can only use an item of the same type as the one you want to craftlike using a Katana as a base to create a new Katana.
Now that you’ve done that, you need to choose the hammer you want to use.
All you have to do is confirm you agree with the estimated cost, then proceed to manufacture the new part.
How to Upgrade Gear in Like a Dragon Ishin
Upgrading your gear in Like a Dragon Ishin is actually called “Upgrading”, and you can also do it at a blacksmith.
When you want to upgrade an item, talk to the blacksmith and choose the ‘Improve’ option. SO, choose the weapon you want to upgrade from your inventory.
SO, select seal you want to apply to the weapon. The chance of the seal being successfully applied to the weapon can be seen in the lower right corner of the screen after highlighting the seal.
Confirm that this is what you want to do, then Ryoma will attempt to upgrade the weapon.
After a short animation, you will know if you were successful or not. It’s important to remember that you can fail to upgrade a weapon. Not all upgrades will work and different seals have different success rates.
How to Get Crafting Materials in Like a Dragon Ishin
Crafting materials are important, naturally, because they’re the things you need to be able to craft new gear and upgrade your existing parts.
Materials can be collected in several ways, but if you are in a hurry, the easiest way is to buy them from the materials merchant at Kurogane Smithing.
Here are the other vendors that sell crafting materials:
- Growing General Merchandise
- Ebisu Pawn Fushimi
- Ebisu Pawn Rakunai
- Don Quixote
You can also collect materials while spending time exploring the map and completing sub-story quests. Exploring outside of the main story quests, we found these to be the best ways to get materials for free:
- Survey of jars with lids
- Beat the Troublemakers
You can sometimes earn materials by using Prize Tickets at the Fushimi Prize Wheel as well, although you can’t guarantee you’ll earn the coin you want.
The hammers in Like a Dragon Ishin explained
Hammers play an important role in crafting new gear and weapons in Like a Dragon Ishin. Without them, you cannot create anything new.
There is five types of hammers and the type of hammer you use will determine the grade (quality) of the item you produce.
In order of lowest to highest quality, the types of hammers are:
- iron hammer
- bronze hammer
- silver hammer
- golden hammer
- Kiwami Hammer
Once an item is crafted, you cannot change its quality, so be selective when choosing which hammer to use.
How to Get Hammers in Like a Dragon Ishin
Now the next task is to get your hands on the hammers, but it’s much easier than you think.
The easiest way to get hammers is to buy them from the materials vendor in Kurogane Smithing. As you enter through the main door, the vendor will be on your left.
You can also collect hammers in other ways by simply playing through the story and spending time exploring the map:
- Pick them up on the street – They can be the luminous objects on the ground.
- Pick them up from defeated enemies – After defeating an enemy, he may drop a hammer or two.
- Complete sub-stories – Some side quests will reward you with hammers upon completion.
Sigils in Like a Dragon Ishin explained
Seals are the items you use to apply buffs to your gear, it’s the item that buffs them.
Different seals have different effects and upgrade specific parts of an item, so it’s worth taking the time to go through the ones you have before deciding which one to use.
There is three classes of Sealand here they are all in order from lowest to highest level:

You can stack jointsthat can improve their power and efficiency. However, if you fail to embed a seal on a weapon, you risk breaking the seal itself. The higher the level of the seal, the more likely it is to fail to integrate.
How to get seals in Like a Dragon Ishin
We have found that the best way to get seals in Like a Dragon Ishin is to buy them from the materials merchant at Kurogane Smithing.
However, you can also collect seals from defeat some enemies and by disassembly of other equipment you have that may have a seal attached.
How to level up Kurogane Smithing in Like a Dragon Ishin
Once you’ve crafted a weapon or two, you might have seen a level bar gradually filling up each time you do something in Kurogane Smithing.
This is your blacksmith level, and you can increase it each time you participate in something in Kurogane Smithing. Crafting and upgrading items is the fastest way to do this, but dismantling items and donating items also works.
Upgrading your smithing level will unlock a bunch of perks that surround crafting. There is 20 levels overall, and each has a unique benefit.
Each time you unlock a new level, the the benefits of this level stack on all previous ones that you won. Loyalty is definitely rewarded at Kurogane Smithing.
