How to Prepare for Shogun Ceanataur for the First Time
As a faster, meaner alternative to its distant cousin, the Daimyo Hermitaur, the Shogun Ceanataur has very similar physiology, even down to the fact that they both wear wyvern skulls as armor.
This one, however, can modify its attacks depending on the skull it’s wearing, so if you see it put on a skull with jaws, be sure to watch out for water attacks coming out of it.
We found that the hit zone of this water jet is very punishing – this may be a bug that will be fixed later; maybe not. Either way, avoid it!
Be sure to pack plenty of potions here, and probably a farcaster if you’re worried you’re about to take a deathblow. This crab is really both terribly fast and can attack from all four sides.
Back to the elements though, the good news is that this hard nut is weak to everything except dragon, but weakest of course to thunder.

How to beat Shogun Ceanataur in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
Shogun Ceanataur is particularly menacing in multiple ways, which means this returning fan favorite is a very welcome sight.
It’s been a while since shells have made an appearance in the Monster Hunter franchise. So new players should know that this monster actually has three forms and can attack in all six directions.
This means, of course, that he can attack you from the sides and the front, which is mostly his way of fighting.
You should be aware that when he extends his arms, he can attack you with a claw that not only does huge damage but leaves you with the bleeding status.
This status cannot be cured with Nulberries; instead, you have to crouch and wait for the bleeding to stop or you’ll lose a lot of health over time.
Luckily, you can move while crouching; don’t get up until the status is gone.
It can also attack from above, with a jump attack that leaves you with bleed damage – something you’ll want to use when leading this monster into battle against other enemies, both for its speed and agility. , and the amount of damage you can land on other monsters.
Besides his spinning attack, there are two other sides you need to be aware of: the back and the ground. First, the ground – assuming the ceanataur still has a shell, be scared when it starts to dig. It will attack three times underground, knocking you up in the air if it hits you.
Since he can juggle you with this, if you run out of thumbtacks (for airborne recovery), you might end up back at base quicker than you’d like.
The easiest way to avoid this is to hold B to mount your doggo friend so you can outrun him. Run down the screen and don’t change direction if you can avoid it.
The last thing to know is the second shell this monster can wear.
If you break the normal shell, you’ll have a brief period where it’s effectively bare, exposing a bump on its back that’s vulnerable to damage.
Obviously he wants to protect this, so he’ll dig underground and pick up a wyvern skull for protection.
In his bare-skull and wyvern states, he has the ability to hurl powerful jets of water at you.
We found that the hit area of this jet is about a sword length too large, which means that even if you don’t hit the water, the water can hit you. Keep this in mind if you are circling for a hit.
Once you’ve mastered the attack pattern, Shogun Ceanataur becomes easier, but its speed and agility in all directions make it particularly difficult to fight. If you’re not feeling confident, be sure to bring a friend and some Life Powders so you can watch each other’s health bars!
