This week Spotlight hour is all about the Puppet Pokemon, making this the perfect time to catch a perfect in Pokemon Go.
Unfortunately, Shuppet and its evolution Banette aren’t great in competitive play, and you probably wouldn’t want to use them in Pokémon Go raids. However, with the current Mega Pokémon in Pokémon Go being Mega Banette, there’s now a real incentive to get involved to catch as many as possible.
If you’re not after finding a stronger Shuppet, you can look into the special bonus that comes with this week’s Spotlight hour – the double bonus evolution XP.

Shuppet 100% perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go
This week’s Spotlight Hour is a great opportunity to catch a Shuppet with perfect IV stats.
“Perfect” means two things in Pokémon Go, depending on how you plan to use a given Pokémon. First, there’s the 100% Max IV build, which is the 15/15/15 you’re after for your 4* Pokédex, Raids, and Master League. Yet, due to the way CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect Pokémon IV is usually just the best version of itself in the Master League.
Of course, you can’t see a Pokemon’s IV without catching it first, but, with a little research beforehand, you can quickly spot a perfect Shuppet based on CP alone.
If you’re level 30 (or higher), you’ll ideally be looking for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Shuppet:
The wild CP value aligns with your trainer level until you reach level 30, and since the majority of the player base is now above that level, we’ve kept these values for the sake of it. of simplicity. These values will however be different if you are currently below level 30.
Is Banette good at PVP?
No, but it’s not terrible either. Either way, you’re looking at the following move set: Shadow Claw, Shadow Ball, and Thunder as second charged moves.
It’s a perfectly reasonable moveset – like most Ghosts performing the Shadow combo, it’s spammy and applies a lot of shield pressure, which when paired with STAB damage can hit quite hard. Adding Thunder to provide some cover is a nice bonus, especially against Azumarill and Skarmory in Great League.
The problem is simply that there are far better options stat-wise, especially considering it’s even more glassy than Gengar – a Pokemon that has a better number of charged moves.
When it comes to Ultra League, Banette is doing a bit better, but not by much. Here, he’s picking up wins against Cresellia and Walrien, but not really of any other interest, while losing to Giratina Altered, Swampert, Talonflame, Alolan Muk, and Trevenant – all of which are pretty good options in the meta.
However, the problem is compounded by the fact that a perfect Ultra League Banette caps out at level 50, with CP 2498 (6/15/15, if you’re curious). This means two things: first, that it’s absolutely not worth pouring Stardust into it, but also that it’s no use in the Master League.
Halloween has returned to Pokémon Go, bringing with it Mega Banette and the Mysterious Masks Special Research Quest. You can also purchase two Halloween-themed quests from the in-game store: Yamask Timed Research and Halloween Timed Research. A Cosmic Companion quest steps 5-8 are now live as part of the Season of Light. Elsewhere, be sure to use Daily Adventure Incense for the chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. There is also a new special research quest – A Mysterious Incense. Finally, don’t forget about new Prime Gaming rewards every fortnight.
Is there a Shiny Shuppet in Pokémon Go?
Yes! Released on Halloween Day 2017, there is a shiny Shuppet in Pokémon Go.
Unlike Community Days, Spotlight Hours not have an increased shine rate, so while you’re looking for a shiny shuppet, you’ll be doing it with the regular shine rates in this game. This means that if you really want a shiny shuppet, you need to make the most of this hour!
What does Shiny Shuppet look like?
As you can see, shiny Shuppet takes on a mint green color, while the evolved form, Banette, goes for an inky blue, which goes well with the gold zip he has for a mouth. The two shiny ones look pretty cool!
Thanks to YouTube user RazZi for the handy comparison.
Meanwhile, the shiny Mega Banette takes on a color somewhere in between, while opening zippers at her hands and legs, revealing pink limbs.

Other tips for this Spotlight Hour
Besides trying to catch a perfect Shiny Shuppet in Pokémon Go, there are a few other great reasons to participate in this week’s Spotlight Hour. The vast majority of players who show up for this Spotlight Hour will no doubt be doing so for the special bonus hour below:
- The best reason is, of course, the double evolution XP bonus run all the time. This gives you the opportunity to collect a lot of XP very quickly, which allows you to increase your trainer level. The best way to do this is to have two beacons in your Pokémon storage dedicated to that time. The first is things you want to evolve and keep — usually powerful Pokémon and Pokémon you need to evolve to update your Pokédex — and things you want to evolve and transfer. This second box should contain all of the 12-candy Pokémon. The search string to quickly find all those items with a rating below 3* is: 0*,1*,2*&10,13,16,265,293,519&!shiny
- If you’re a newcomer, this Spotlight Hour is a great time to collect enough Shuppet Candy to fully evolve this Pokémon and register its evolution, Banette, in your Pokédex.
- Thanks to the fact that Shuppet is a ghost-type Pokémon, catching a group of them during this Spotlight hour will add progress to your ghost-type catch bonus medal.
Remember that Spotlight Hour events only last for one hour, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (local time).
As of this writing, the Spotlight hours for November haven’t been announced, but we’ll be back next week with a primer on everything that’s about to take center stage in Pokémon Go.
