Green rain is a weather type introduced in update 1.6 for The Valley of the Stars and, as the name suggests, sees a very strange water falling on the valley.

While worrisome in real life, Stardew Valley’s green rain can actually be a blessing. (Although some Valley residents may disagree with me.) effects of green rain can make it easier to find both Mousse And Fiddlehead Ferns Thanks to Green rain trees that appear during this time. You may also notice that the growth of normal trees has accelerated a little.

SO When is Green Rain coming out? And what are the effects of green rain in stardew valley?

On this page:

When does Green Rain happen in Stardew Valley?

The green rain is coming once every summer in Stardew Valley and can occur on any of the eight days of the season – 5, 6, 7, 14, 15, 16, 18 and 23The exact day is chosen randomly, so chances are you’ll see the green rain fall on a different day every year.

The day before the green rain arrives, the Weather Forecast TV channel will announce an “abnormal reading.”

When you wake up the next day, the world outside your window will be dark and a green tint will cover the screen. A message saying “A green rain has fallen on the valley” will also appear and you may have a letter from Gus inviting you to the Stardrop Saloon.

Green Rain Effects: What Happens During Green Rain in Stardew Valley?

While you can go about your normal business when Green Rain visits Stardew Valley, a number of significant changes occur on this very special day. (Besides the green hue that colors the valley and the interiors of its residents’ homes.)

The main change you will see is that rain green trees and weeds will appear all over your farm and in the valley. Only the beach and Calico Desert are safe from this new vegetation. You may also find that some of the rain green trees on your farm will remain after the rain stops, but the ones outside your lot will disappear. The rain green weeds will also disappear, so don’t worry about removing them if you don’t want to.

These two special plants are a great source of moss, which can be used in various recipes and is required for one of the Crafts Room’s remixed forest packs.

Green Rain Weeds have a chance to drop Moss when cut and the larger version of these rocks can drop Moss Seeds, which can be used to grow a Green Rain Tree.

Regarding the Green Rain Trees, it is important to note that there are three variants. The first two are slightly similar in appearance to the regular trees that grow throughout the valley, though they certainly have more foliage. You may find that these trees already have moss growing on them, which you can obtain by cutting them down. This can also net you wood, sap, moss seeds, and even hardwood. Shaking one of these trees can also net you a moss seed.

The third type of Green Rain Tree, however, looks like a Fiddlehead Fern, one of the plants you can forge during the summer. While moss cannot grow on these trees, you can obtain a Mossy Seed by shaking them. More interestingly, you can gain five Fiddlehead Ferns by cutting them down, and then additional Fiddlehead Ferns and possibly Mossy Seeds from the stump. If you grow one of these trees from a Mossy Seed and farm it, you can gain a Fiddlehead Fern every other day outside of winter.

All three types of Green Rain Trees have the potential to spread seeds throughout your farm, so even when the temporary trees are gone, you can discover new ones growing on your farm.

Green Rain also has an effect on regular trees, causing some of them to grow faster and increasing the chances of mature trees developing moss. Mature oaks and maples also have a higher chance of turning into Green Rain trees depending on the weather conditions.

Aside from the plant life, the Green Rain also has an effect on the people of the valley. During the first year, when talking to some, it is realized that they are actually quite afraid of the new weather, but, by the second year, they seem to get used to it. Still, the majority of the villagers stay indoors, and if they go out, it is to visit the Stardrop Saloon. However, Demetrius seems very interested in the phenomenon, donning a hazmat suit to investigate further.

Another benefit of Green Rain is that you can enter buildings whenever you want and even visit rooms that are usually inaccessible without meeting certain heart requirements. It’s also important to note that you can’t give gifts to villagers during Green Rain in Year 1, but you can afterward.

Green rain also affects some electronic devices. Your TV will display green static, the phone line will be cut, and the Stardrop Saloon jukebox and mini-jukebox will refuse to work.

Finally, the expedition summary at the end of the day will show green fog and threatening storm clouds.
