Connections response for July 18
Without further ado, here is Connections’ response for today:
- Open space – Courtyard, Square, Square, Courtyard.
- Boxing Unit – Fight, Contest, Match, Round.
- Glitter – Dazzle, flash, pomp, Ritz.
- Emoji – Fire, heart, skull, sparks.
After an initial scan of the available words, Court and Yard caught my attention. Finding the yellow group was considerably easier once I had those two words to guide me. My next guess was to group together Falsh, Dazzle, and Pomp. It took me a try to find the right fourth word, but I eventually did it and completed the blue group. Now, trying to figure out the last two groups, I grouped together all the words that represented “things,” which gave me the purple group first.
What to play after Connections?
The obvious answer to this question is Wordle, but if you’ve already solved that problem today, the New York Times has other games to offer. As for word-based games, the NYTimes offers Mini Crossword, Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed, and Strands, which is still in beta. If you feel like taking a break from words, you can also try Tiles — a pattern-matching game — or Sudoku.
Outside of the NYTimes, there is Semantle, where you have to find the secret word by guessing its meaning. Spelling doesn’t matter in Semantle, instead you have to pay attention to the numerical value of your guesses to plot your way to the answer. If you prefer to stick to the Connections format, however, then it’s worth checking out Puzzgrid. There are hundreds of Connections-style puzzles there, but with only three minutes to solve them.
(You can also just watch Only Connect on BBC iPlayer…)
