How to Unlock The Dark Castle in Disney Dreamlight Valley
To unlock The Dark Castle quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you must complete The Forgotten Relics quest. To unlock The Forgotten Relics, you must first find the Fairy Godmother in Miracles Take Time, complete Forgotten Memories and What’s Left Behind (which unlock after Miracles Take Time), then wait 24 hours.
After a full day, The Forgotten Relics quest will appear in your “Story Quests” journal, and once you locate all of the relics and get their associated characters to share their memories, you’ll automatically unlock The Dark Castle.
If you haven’t started The Forgotten Relics yet, it’s worth completing the level 10 friendship quests for Mickey Mouse, Scar, Moana, and Elsa first, because you can’t complete The Forgotten Relics without doing these friendship quests.
Once The Dark Castle unlocks for you, go talk to Merlin, who then takes you to the well in the Plaza and opens a portal with the relics of The Dark Castle, where The Forgotten resides.
Step through the portal to begin your final journey into The Forgotten’s story!
How to get through the first gate in Disney Dreamlight Valley Dark Castle
Once you pass through the portal and enter the Dark Castle, you are stopped by the first door that thinks your appearance isn’t quite up to par. To go through the first gate of the Dark Castle, you must equip a crown and wings.
If you happen to already have a crown and a pair of wings, you can simply open your inventory, go to “Wardrobe” and click on the current quest at the top where you can equip your costume quickly. However, you might want to explore even if you already have these items as there are keepsakes to collect on the ground in this first area.
Don’t worry if you don’t already have a crown and wings! There are a few cardboard versions of The Forgotten’s signature look on either side of the room inside two cabinets. Simply clear the Night Thorns to access the cabinets, then open the pouches you get from searching the cabinets and equip items from your own “Cabinet” inventory.
Once you have a crown and wings equipped, go talk to the door again which now lets you into the next room, which has another door puzzle.
How to get through the second dark castle gate in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Once you’ve cleared some Night Thorns and climbed the stairs, you’re blocked by Doorine, the second door. If you read the note next to the fire cooker, you can find the solution to getting past Doorine on your own, but we’ve detailed that below for those in a hurry.
To pass the second gate of the Dark Castle, you must give him a salad of night thorn shoots. The recipe for making Nighttime Thorn Sprout Salad in Disney Dreamlight Valley is as follows:
- x1 dark castle lettuce
- x1 Thorn shoot
- x1 Dream Salt
These special ingredients are located on a table near the fire pot. Pick them up and toss them into the jar to make your nighttime thornsprout salad. No need to worry about coal, as there is no need to cook a meal during The Dark Castle quest.
All you need to do now is return to Doorine and feed her the delicious Nightthornsprout Salad you just made. The door will turn blue as long as you give it the right meal, and you can go through the door and start the third puzzle.
Disney Dreamlight Valley’s The Remembering update is here! The Fairy Godmother is now in the valley and you can continue the story through the Forgotten Memories quest. You can also now have multiple player houses and customize furniture. If you’re still catching up with the storyline, be sure to complete The Great Blizzard quest to unlock Olaf, while bringing Simba and Nala to the valley. How to get through the third gate of Disney Dreamlight Valley Dark Castle
Clear the Night Thorns to climb the next set of stairs to find the third gate, or rather, where the third gate is supposed to be. The Forgotten made the door disappear and to make it reappear you need to figure out what they mean by the “mechanical eye” mentioned in the letter next to where the door should be.
Turns out the mechanical eye is a camera, so to pass the third gate in The Dark Castle at Disney Dreamlight Valley you need to take a picture of where the gate should be. It’s the empty area under all the shiny green graffiti on the walls.
Once you’ve taken a photo of the correct area, the third door will appear and you can go through it to start the final door puzzle in the Dark Castle.
How to Get Through the Fourth Gate of Disney’s Dreamlight Valley Dark Castle
For the last time, take out Night Thorns in the next area until you get to the fourth and final door to the Dark Castle, which is blocked by a huge lock. To pass the fourth gate of the Dark Castle, you must use your pickaxe on the breakable ice to obtain torches. You must then place the four torches on the small pedestals surrounding the well in the middle to collect the key.
Torch locations
THE first torch isn’t actually in the ice and is easy to spot as it’s on the ground under the locked door.
THE second torch is in a small piece of ice near a pile of books near the locked door.
THE third torch is in a large piece of ice at the edge of the balcony near the blocked stairs.
THE last torch is in a large piece of ice at the edge of the balcony near lots of other ice structures that you can’t break, by a large piece of rubble on the ground.
Torch puzzle solution
Once you’ve collected all four torches, it’s time to place them on the correct pedestals. This puzzle is actually easier than it looks because you’re not allowed to place a torch on the wrong pedestal, so you’ll know right away without having to figure out the solution correctly.
If for some reason it doesn’t work for you, here is exactly where to place each torch in the Dark Castle:
- night torch – Pedestal closest to the locked door.
- Twilight Torch – Pedestal closest to stacks of books.
- noon torch – Pedestal closest to the edge of the balcony.
- dawn torch – Pedestal closest to the large gravel on the ground.
You can also solve this problem by looking at the symbols inside the well under the giant key. This is what the torches look like when placed correctly:
Once you’ve successfully solved the torch puzzle, the well will fill with water, so equip your fishing rod to fish out the golden bubble key, then use the key on the locked door.
Here are all the puzzles of The Dark Castle quest completed! You can now face The Forgotten and start the next quest, The Remembered.
Since it’s such a short quest, we’ve included a small walkthrough for The Remembered below instead of creating a new page.
Disney Dreamlight Valley Walkthrough
After a magical confrontation with The Forgotten, you are both transported to a strange dreamlike place containing your childhood memories.
Walk towards the light where the Forgotten must begin this trip down memory lane, then press the “Focus Magic” prompt when it appears above the sandbox.
After another talk with The Forgotten, turn right and walk towards the bed in the distance and talk to The Forgotten again. You need to focus your magic on the bed this time after your conversation, but it can be a bit tedious. The best position to focus your magic is at the bottom of the bed near The Forgotten. You may need to spread them apart and move closer to the bed for the prompt to appear like in the image below.
It’s time to talk to The Forgotten again, and when you’re done, head to the office under the light in the distance and resume the conversation with your purple friend. Then, focus your magic on the desk to reveal more childhood artifacts.
For the last time, follow the light to The Forgotten which this time is next to a bookshelf. Tell them about it, then focus your magic on the library.
All that talk was worth something, because The Forgotten is now going to help you stop all that doomsday plan they had – phew! You’ll get a nice screenshot opportunity with all of your villagers before the credits roll, and after the credits roll there’s a small preview of a new villain and a possible new biome for the valley…
Speak with The Forgotten in the plaza to get the orb of remembrance as part of the very small odds and ends quest, then place the orb in the pillar on the northwest side of the Forgotten Lands area, next to side of a pond.
After placing the Orb, talk to Merlin to finally complete this questline.
I hope you enjoyed the story of The Forgotten in Disney Dreamlight Valley!
