Xbox Games Showcase 2023 We presented our most ambitious roster of games ever, and that meant we had to showcase projects from some of the biggest teams in the world – and smaller ones too. Among the stunning projects from our very own Xbox Game Studios, we’ve also made room for some very special projects [email protected] Developers including Thunder Lotus’ 33 immortals and Microbird Games’ Hinterberg dungeon.
On this week’s Xbox Podcast, our very own Larry Hryb interviewed developers from both teams and couldn’t help but ask what it’s like to see their projects share the stage with the likes of us starfield, fableand more.
“It was incredible,” said Stephan Logier, creative director of Thunder Lotus. “It was a dream come true for the team and for me – it was so rewarding to be part of the community. I was in the room with everyone, with all the fans, and there was so much energy, and [such] amazing content. It was really something, one of the best moments of my life. We’ve worked so hard to achieve this over the past few years, so this moment was extraordinary.”
Microbird co-founder Philipp Seifried felt the same: “It was absolutely great. We were silent about the game for a year and a half. When we first started pro totyping we took some initial screenshots and posted them on Twitter and got quite a good response, but then we were silent for so long and it got on our nerves that we can’t talk about the game. For this to be screened for the first time at such an incredibly large event – alone in the cinema in LA – was one of the greatest moments we’ve had in years.”
Microbird co-founder Regina Reisinger added, “We were really excited, our hands were shaking a little while waiting.”
It’s safe to say that both revelations were well received. 33 immortals wowed with its mix of action-roguelike mechanics and massive 33-player co-op at its core (brought from the spirit of MMO raids). Hinterberg dungeon It’s now garnered praise for its vibrant, comic book-inspired art style and promise of life sim elements alongside dungeon crawling.
Press appointments were also offered for both games, which Logier was happy to take advantage of immediately after the showcase:
“We played a version of the game with the press all afternoon and had a lot of fun. Playing directly with everyone in co-op was really interesting and we died a lot [laughs]! Everyone died many times and we saved each other and so everyone started using the unique power of each weapon – you need other players to take position and so we developed tactics to get rid of dangerous elites, really monster elites fast, so it was really fun. In a multiplayer game like 33 immortalsthe game really exists when players play together, the game dynamic is created in that moment… we played, talked and had fun together and it was a really good moment.”
33 Immortals is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Cloud, and is available day one for Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass members. In 2024, an Early Access version will be released through the Xbox Game Preview program on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC, also available in Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
Dungeons of Hinterberg will be released in 2024 for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Cloud and will be available on day one for Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass members.
