Today, the GPU market is monopolized by two real giants like NVIDIA and AMD (not to mention Intel), but this has not always been the case. In the 90s there was one company that was way above the rest (at that time only NVIDIA came close) and its name was 3dfx.
Their Voodoo cards were impressive and they had very advanced technology for the time. The company unfortunately went bankrupt and NVIDIA acquired all of its intellectual property for a fair amount of money. For this reason, it’s quite surprising what we’ve come to tell you today, and it looks like the company is set to come back 20 years later.
3dfx will announce something next Thursday
While this appears to be something real, the truth is, it easily could not be. In fact, the image used for the announcement tweet is a fan creation. The announcement calls us to next Thursday for the news, so luckily we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
