Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, we tested its open beta

Age, Beta, Open, Realms, ruin, Sigmar, tested

Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin are the new video game based on Warhammer Age of Sigmar, the games workshop figurines game, developed by Frontier. Moreover, this is the first time that this Warhammer license appears in the form of a real-time strategy game. Don’t confuse Mortal Realms from Age of Sigmar with The Old World from the Total War saga on PC. This saga is based on the classic Warhammer board game, which although fans keep it alive, does not officially exist today (while waiting for the release of The Old World). To put us in context, the Old World collapsed due to the End Times, which gave rise to the Mortal Realms, realms separated in space-time and communicated by portals. In this open beta of Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, we were able to play with Stormcast Eternals, the Reforged Soldiers of Sigmar, and with a faction of Mandamaloz Orruks, formerly known as Orcs.

First impressions of Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin

Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin embrace gender Classic RTS. Matches place each player’s base at opposite ends from the menu. The main idea is control all checkpoints of resources to defeat the rival. These resources have two colors, blue and orange. Command Points and Kingdom Stones respectively. These resources will help us create new units, as well as new abilities and upgrades. We can also build buildings, although in this aspect the game lacks enough depth compared to other titles. There will also be certain actions that will lower the opponent’s score, like capturing critical points or destroying their buildings.

Well, since it’s Warhammer after all, let’s get to the cakes. We can create various units to defend and attack, these units range from line troops to war machines, heroes, monsters, etc. The basis of combat is a priori very simple, units can be of three types: heavy, light or ranged. Heavy troops “beat” light troops, ranged troops “beat” heavy troops, and light troops “beat” ranged troops. They’re breaking that rock-paper-scissors dynamic heroes or monsters, each with its individual virtues. This system is easy to learn but hard to mastersince it is always necessary to seek a balance of the troops and that the pressure of the rival is continuous.

As for its game modes, we will find a narrative campaign for one player. The story is co-written by Gavin Thorpe of Black Library, author of several novels of the Warhammer universe. There’s no shortage of multiplayer modes with cross-platform play to kick our ass with friends around the world. Just wait for the departure date to try all available races and all their game modes complete. To keep up to date with news on this title and many others, be sure to visit our website, Xbox Area.
