I’m Lennart Sas, co-founder and studio manager of Triumph Studios, and in case I haven’t had the chance to introduce you to my team over the last 20 years, we are the people behind the Age of Wonders series. For over 20 years, our games have brought you our iconic blend of role-playing and tactical strategy gaming, where creative empire building, 4X strategy and tactical turn-based combat come together to create something we believe is truly special.
We are particularly proud of our latest version: Age of Wonders 4. Our community has responded with so much love and positive feedback since our release last year, and that community has grown tremendously thanks to our largest, most accessible game yet. But we’re just getting started – Expansion Pass 2 has launched, so you can tell new stories over the next year.
Everyone has an idea for a fantasy empire they could bring to life in our worlds – be it a rampaging horde of bloodthirsty, flame-throwing mole people or a large, pious army of angelic goblins. We’ve also heard some of your stories of the unexpected: factions that started with a simple idea but evolved into something entirely different through your trials and tomes! Inspired by this last point – evolution – I would like to share some of the ideas we are adding to the game in our next wave of updates and expansions.
This week we revealed the next wave of content Age of Wonders 4 in our second expansion pass. It starts with Herald of Glory, a modest but exciting collection of new items for your heroes – your squad leaders in the game and the most powerful battlefield pieces – as well as some new options for the factions these heroes will fight alongside.
This is just to whet your appetite before we start adding more stuff – more than you might expect! Make no mistake, we have more tomes of magic and more new faction cultures on the way, but our game has undergone many changes over the last year and a half, inspired directly by your feedback. We’ve taken your suggestions into account to make sure we don’t just add more things; We attach great importance to improving what already exists.
Take, for example, the Ways of War expansion, which we also announced. We designed Ways of War’s content to focus on player control over the story and theme of their empire, allowing them to shape the story of their rise to power. The new Oathsworn culture rewards players for adhering to their warrior code, if only when it comes to challenging worthy opponents or even avoiding war if possible. At the same time, we’re adding new Intrigue Events that include assassinations, betrayals, and downright dishonorable opponents to see how far our players are willing to push the boundaries of these codes.
We’re also adding more choice for players in the updates we’ve made to the base game. The hero upgrade system has been completely overhauled, incorporating new progression trees to help you better tailor each character’s journey to your personal stories and strategic needs. Add to that the changes we’ve made over the last year, like updated Mystic Culture schools, item forging, new advancement options, and more.
We’ve already shared some details about additional content for Age of Wonders 4. We’re adding giant kings, new hand-crafted map regions, and the fulfillment of a prophecy that brings the ancient archons back to the realms – but I’m getting ahead of myself. The point is, Age of Wonders has always been about offering a wide range of choices so players can rule any fantasy empire they can imagine. Now our focus is on making these decisions deeper, more detailed and richer.
If you haven’t tried an Age of Wonders game yet, I can tell you with certainty that now is the best time. Check out Ways of War and our new Expansion Pass and see what awaits you!
