The flaws of Activision Blizzard’s internal issues remain. After the cases of harassment and complaints within the company became known, many unions began to form thanks to the media support of workers who suppressed themselves for fear of ill-treatment. Now, and in the midst of Microsoft’s purchase, a study has come out creating a union and setting an example for Xbox owners.
It is the proletariat of study which has announcement what 57 members Team members began the process of organizing with the Communication Workers of America (CWA), the same association that had some ties to Microsoft earlier this year. Proletariat developed Spellbreak before being acquired by Activision Blizzard to help maintain World of Warcraft.
Now, and with the announcement of this union, the urgent need that exists within Activision to make real changes that improve the quality of life of workers is demonstrated.
Microsoft is an ideal example of how to maintain the quality of life of workers
Earlier this year, Microsoft was announced as the top company with the best organizational culture. This, beyond the numbers, means that workers who unionize within the company obtain real guarantees and fair conditions that allow them to work in complete safety. Unlike Activision, which has persecuted unionists and workers seeking workforce improvements.
For this reason, the members of the Proletariat reflected in their letter a reference such as that of Microsoft, asking for a policy of PTO (paid leave) with better guarantees and security. Additionally, they expressed the need for Blizzard executives not to get involved in the union crackdown that has happened so far.
Attempts by Activision executives to prevent their workers from joining a union have not only been a waste of time and money, but have further damaged morale and underlined the company’s reputation for creating an environment toxic and hostile workplace, said the CWA secretary. -Treasurer Sara Steffens in a Press release.
Microsoft has shown that even America’s largest companies can choose a different path and allow workers to choose freely and fairly whether or not they want union representation. It’s not too late for Activision executives to change course and begin to repair the company’s public image and its relationship with its workers by recognizing the Proletariat Workers Union and committing to a productive engagement at the bargaining table.
With all of this on the table, it’s important to remember that some very prominent unions in the United States have joined the fight against the FTC and in favor of Microsoft’s takeover of Activision. While this does not tip the scales in the deal, it is important to lay the groundwork for the benefits that exist for industry and workers.
We are delighted to announce that the workers of the Proletariat have asked management to voluntarily recognize our union, the Alliance of the Workers of the Proletariat. 1/14 pic.twitter.com/JtYTCvJT5X
