Ixion is the new survival and space management game of Ramparts Studios. so to speak is a kind of frostpunk spatialwhere we will have to worry about taking care of the colonists of a spaceship, which, as if it were an ark, transports the last humans through space.
Ixion’s story
It’s the year 2049 and due to human action the earth is no longer such a friendly place.. Dolos AEC, a renowned space agency is in charge of finding an alternative to our planet, that’s why they create Tiquun. It’s a huge spacecraft designed to transport humans to a new home Beyond the stars.
When the ship’s engines are ignited, it made a gigantic pulsation which ended up causing the ship to travel back in time, to the future. The energy of the pulse was of such magnitude that part of the moon broke away and fell to the ground.
Leaving the pulse, we see how the earth was totally destroyedleaving something more similar to what Mars is today, but also surrounded by a sea of meteorites.
Resource management and construction
The Tiquun is divided into 6 sectors, we will start the game with only 1 of them available. As we progress, we will unlock others, gaining more space and resources.
To ensure our survival as a species, resource management and construction prove vital
The first thing will be to create a workshop, which will allow us to build different buildings and warehouses, we will acquire resources from the different sectors of the ship, in addition to collect space minerals and do exchanges and shipments. The resources are diverse, the metal alloywhich allows us to build many buildings, the food for our settlers cryocapsules to gain population, which will not always be workers, which is a problem, the polymers to create ships and solar panels and the scientific points for investigations.
Solar panels are very important as they provide power to the Tiquun, in addition to the buildings within and the propulsion system of the gigantic ship itself. It’s worth noting that not everything has to be running (and therefore consuming power) for things to work, but we will be able to use our facilities intelligently.
if we manage to stay without electricity, everything will stop working and the morale of the inhabitants will drop until the end of the game. We can also lose if many people die due to lack of food, deterioration of ships’ hulls and more.
Decision-making in Ixion
In Ixion, we will also have to make decisions. Over time, the population will question our leadership and we have to choose what we want to do. Choose between surviving, satisfying the needs of the crew or for our own benefit, everything is in our hands.
Occasionally, a bad decision can trigger a chain reaction which ends up ruining our game, on the other hand, other times we’ll have a lot to gain, keep that in mind. For my taste, the first case happens too easily, if morale drops, it is almost impossible to recover.
space exploration and research
In Ixion we can explore the vast spacealways bearing in mind that there are areas of space that are dangerous. Like for example the toxic, radiation or meteorite cloudsthere is a lot to see. We can move the Tiquun at the expense of energy and damaging the ship’s hull, but also we can send smaller ships in different mining or research missions.
the mining ship it allows us to collect materials such as iron, silicon, hydrogen and many others. freighters are responsible for storing and transporting resources, while scientific vessels They allow us to explore the universe.
Through the scientific ships we can attend different events on various planets and specific locations, which will give us as scientific reward points what can we use unlock upgrades and new technologies in a research center.
The search screen is basically a kind of ringed treewith the most advanced technologies in the rings furthest from the center, also at a higher cost.
The artistic and technical section of Ixion
Ixion is developed with Unity and, a priori, it seems to have normal graphics, but once you look at it, you see that everything is full of detailswe can bring the camera closer and we will see how everything is perfectly synchronized, the robots, the humans, the shadows, the lighting, everything works. In terms of performance, the game runs smoothly
On the other hand, the soundtrack created by Guillaume Davidhas 15 themes that fit perfectly into the decor of the game. The voices, yes, are in English, but we have texts in Spanish.
In short, Ixion is…
It’s a good management and simulation game, but with some problems. The issue of morale is a bit complicated to manage, that cryocapsules can give you unemployment and then there is no way to make them work it’s a big problem, since you have to deal with people you can not stand. Another problem is the immense amount of resources we have to invest in repairing the hull of the ship.which degrades even if you don’t move it, when the resources run out quickly and aren’t infinite.
It’s a game that doesn’t have the option to play more casually, Only story modewhich gets complicated in a short time, so will force you to restart the story multiple times until you learn how to play optimally.
We’ll see how it works in the future, the base is very good, It’s fun but it’s very demanding and sometimes it seems like there are little things that are not fully measured. Yet it is a recommended title for fans of the genre.
