Mortal Kombat 1arrived on our consoles as a reboot of one of the most important battle sagas in history. This reboot marked a new beginning for a franchise that has more than a dozen titles.
With all this, Mortal Kombat 1he presented himself in style, being one of the best deliveries despite its longevity. After Liu Kang restarted the timeline and fully immersed us in a new universe, the world of Mortal Kombat 1 presents us with a new twist. Thanks to its expansion The Reign of Kaosthe game shows us that the multiverse is here to stay.
A new twist in the story
So this extension It brings several additions, the most relevant being the inclusion of 3 new characters and an expanded story mode. Regarding the latter point, the game continues after the events of the base game’s story. It’s here, where youA new titan comes into play, Havik.
The story mode continues with the same line present in the base campaign. This means having a typical B-movie tone.. The graphics and cutscenes continue to be spectacular, the new scenarios are full of detail and feel great. However, I feel that Havik’s story is not very interesting and is just an excuse to introduce his new characters. The story becomes diluted very quickly and there are many uninteresting or repetitive fights. It is common that during its story mode we repeatedly fight against the same characters or with slight modifications.
Likewise, I think we could have done a lot more with the multiverse by introducing characters with different styles. The grand artistic display deposited in its new settings collapses with Kaos versions of classic characters like Scorpion.. Ultimately, all of these new skins maintain a punk style that makes them all too similar to each other.
Three great fighters
Leaving that aside, the best addition to this pack are the three great fighters of the Lin Kuei clan. Cyrax and Sektor return to battle with their powerful cybernetic armor. Featuring a very agile combat style, where there is no shortage of rockets, thrusters and of course, the mythical Cyrax trap. Sektor is undoubtedly a pleasant surprise, showing surprising versatility and offering the player a unique playstyle. Of course, their deaths remain a hallmark, so brutality is guaranteed.
On the other hand, the highlight of this expansion is Noob Saibot. This fantastic character is back allowing the player to achieve impressive combos using shadow attacks. He is not as fast as Sektor but still maintains a very versatile playstyle. His death remains one of the most spectacular in the saga. It must be said that Mortal Kombat 1will continue to receive content, keeping in mind the arrival of new cameos like Conan or Scream.
In short, The Reign of Kaoscomes to our consoles as a decent addition. Its three new characters are the best of this new content, relegating its story mode to an anecdotal place.which seems uninspired given the high quality of the original story and the number of possibilities that exist. From here we thank the team of Warner Bros. Games for the code that allowed us to carry out this analysis.
