Orcs must die It is a saga well known to all fans of the genre. Defense tower. With its third numbered part as the final iteration, Robot Entertainment present now Orcs Must Die: Death Trapwhich comes directly from the launch to Xbox Game Pass. More precisely, the platform used for this purpose analysis has been Xbox Series S.
Without further ado, before starting the analysis I would like to thank Robot Entertainment for the code provided which allowed us to carry it out.
The main premise of Orcs Must Die: Deathtrap
Orcs Must Die: Death Trap it's a Third-person tower defense where we will have at our disposal different characters, each with their own attacks and abilitieswhich we can control freely in a series of missions. In these missions Our objective will be to destroy the large number of enemies who will come to us in waves: orcs, shamans, dragons, skeletons… We have a main tower with health points. If enemies attack repeatedly until these points are exhausted, it will be destroyed, which will mean our defeat. The part that many might not like is about the repetitivenessbecause fundamentally it will always be the same, even if we already know that we are talking about a genre where this is normal.
In order to properly defend yourself against these waves of monsters, it will be essential place many traps around the map. The playable areas will take place in gardens, castles, quays, markets, etc. centuries ago. Of course, traps cannot be placed infinitely, as they will require a certain number of coins that we will earn as we eliminate enemies. Once we have collected enough coins, we can set traps on the floor, ceiling or walls, using spikes, arrows, fire, acid or trampolines to try to kill everyone who passes through them. There are also barricades that will allow us to block the path of monsters, or change their trajectory to take them where we want. SO, strategy is fundamental in this proposal.
Another fundamental element will be the SKILLS of each character. There is basic shooting or attacking (since some use ranged weapons and others melee), as well as powers that can be used as many times as necessary, although they will need to be recharged with each use.
Prepare for the mission
Each mission will consist of 6 waves pure frenzy. Between each wave we will have the opportunity to select a benefitout of three, from a selection which will increase by spending skulls. These skulls are collected in each mission and they will also help us improve the unique skill tree for each characterin addition to buying new traps and improving the ones we already have. All this can be done in aentrance hall» before starting each mission.
Missions are divided into several partsstarting with 3 and increasing with each term of it, consisting of surviving waves of basic and powerful enemies to finally end with a fight against a powerful final boss. Once this boss is defeated, we can move on to our next objective, including the difficulty will increase. Like this again and again, and that is why I commented previously that it may not be something to the taste of all players who venture into this “trap” survival proposition.
In Orcs Must Die: Deathtrap you will spend many hours of cooperative fun
Orcs Must Die: Death Trap It's much more fun in co-op. Enjoy everything the game has to offer with up to 3 additional players via online connection, with cross-play included between Xbox and PC (in fact, it takes advantage of the system Play anywherewhich allows you to play on either platform by purchasing the game once). Likewise, The difficulty will be adjusted to the number of players presentso it is also possible to play alone and enjoy without problems. The amount of coins we start with and the life points of the main tower will increase significantly if we are alone, so not playing with more companions is compensated.
Note that the online servers work very correctlyhaving suffered in my personal case only a few problems during some of my stays at the entrance hall between missions. During these, I personally encountered no notable problem (nor any bugeverything is said). In general, we can say that Death trap This is a perfectly enjoyable opus in its own right, but the pleasure increases even more the more players there are in each game.
Technically correct, artistically competent
On a technical level, Orcs Must Die: Death Trap It's not really a wonder. It's simply compliant, and in fact on Xbox Series S it doesn't even reach 60fps at the time of writing this review (hopefully this will be fixed via a future patch). However, where he is at a very good level is artistically. Use a 3D animated movie styleit's a pleasure to observe the drawing of the cards, as well as the enemies, even having a little blood (nothing too exaggerated though).
Unfortunately, The title doesn't even have texts in Spanish (again, at the time of writing this review) on Xbox, although on PC yes. This is something that is not understood, even more so when talking about a Play Anywhere game as I mentioned in the interior section. Regardless, I'm sure this can be fixed in a future update. As you might expect, just like the texts, the dubbing is only localized in English. However, the latter isn't very important given that the title lacks a story as such, focusing only on single sentences that don't add much given the focus on pure survival .
Conclusions of Orcs Must Die: Deathtrap
In short, we can conclude that Orcs Must Die: Death Trap It fulfills quite well the only objective it pursues: to have fun. Don't expect anything revolutionary, but simplicity doesn't necessarily imply poor quality, not at all. We are faced with a proposal which -especially if enjoyed cooperatively- It will largely meet the expectations of a Tower Defense fan. Yes indeed, If you're new to the genre, this might not be the best entry point.keep this in mind.
There are also some technical issues which we hope will be resolved by a future patch, but, other than that, Death trap It turns out to be a very worthy episode of its saga.
