Primal Survivors is a top-down survival game developed by Old School Vibes and published by Afil Games in which we will have to survive waves of enemies and bosses.
In recent years, the survival genre with management and skill choices has seen some great releases that are hard to beat, such as Vampire Survivors or Brotato, which have received great support from critics and users. Primal Survivors seeks to carve out a place for itself among the greats of the genre and seeks to attract users who are perhaps more novice in games of this style. It is true that the game offers a smaller experience and does not have the depth that the others offer.
Set in the primitive era, we will encounter animal creatures of the time as enemies or as playable characters (tiger, mammoth, snake, eagle, wolf…) each of which has appropriate abilities.
Game mechanics and modes
In the game we find simple controls since we can move in any direction and as a form of attack we will have a fire button, on which we can make our character shoot automatically and we will only have to direct where to aim. We must also take into account the ability of our character, which can give us a way to attack more. Taking into account that when we shoot we will move more slowly, we must choose the exact moment to fight or the moment when escaping becomes the best option to avoid losing so many lives in a row.
In Primal Survivors there is some game modesone of them where the difficulty is high and the other with a more moderate difficulty that allows a more bearable experience. All of them are differentiated by the duration, the damage inflicted by the enemies and the experience capacity that we obtain, all this will be different depending on the character we use since each of them will bring us different improvements and advantages for our game.
Visual aspect
The weakest part of the game is undoubtedly the visual aspect, since the quality of the models is not completely defined, finding a great difference in relation to the enemies and our character as well as the elements of the environment. There is not that detail of the character models that have been generated with few colors each, giving a feeling of little care that negatively affects the overall experience of Primal Survivors.
Skills and progression
In The Primitive Survivors we will have some bones as a resource that we can use to improve our element, unlock a character or a new card from any game mode, all taking into account that more than one complete game is necessary to unlock one of the cheapest elements in the game. It is true that this feeling of overall progression is not very great, as in the rest of the games mentioned above since in this one, we find prices that are not very well chosen and that seek to artificially extend the duration of the game.
Every time you at the top level we can choose between 3 different options among which we have at our disposal to increase damage, more attack speed, increase the ability to burn enemies, among others. We also have an interesting option such as the possibility of summon spirits that help us by attacking from a distance or in close combat. We will have to think carefully that we want to improve and even more if we have an element (water, fire, earth) since we can obtain a certain advantage during the game.
Conclusions
Primal Survivors is a top-down survival shooter set in primitive times in which we will have to survive waves of enemies who will want to finish us off. Like any game of this genre, we have simple controls in which we must worry about going through the level and knowing how to shoot our weapon correctly. The graphic aspect of the game stands out negatively, making the visual experience less than expected.
