Developed by Indigo Studios and published by Soedesco, we are pleased to analyze Seven Doors, a puzzle game that will make us think a lot
Games belonging to the puzzle genre have been one of the genres that have benefited from the indie scene. And it is thanks to these independent studios, which are committed to something different and are not afraid to experiment, that we have received games like The Witness, The Pedestrian or The Talos Principle. NOW, Thanks to the Spanish studio Indigo Studios and the publisher Soedesco, Seven Doors is released, a puzzle game with components from Escape Room, who will test us in different ways. If you are interested in this title, we will analyze the title in depth.
Will you be able to overcome the seven trials?
In Seven Doors do not expect a very elaborate or convoluted story, in this title only you and the puzzles count. Our adventure begins in a corridor, with a door in front of us, and with a voice that tells us that seven trials await us behind and that if we will manage to overcome them. After that, the door in front of our character opens, and our first challenge awaits. Maybe a more elaborate story would have been useful for the game, but what we can’t deny is its fabulous setting. All the rooms that we will pass through are magnificent, with many elements on the screen and decorations that may or may not be part of the puzzles, but which make the whole game. The game lasts about 3 hours, because when we complete the seven main puzzles, another 3 optional puzzles open.
The puzzles are a bit irregular. On the one hand there are some that are very well made, ingenious and will make you rack your brains, and others that are not up to par.. For example, the second puzzle or the room of paintings seems very good to me. On the other hand, the last test, which should be the best in the game, seemed very bad to me, being able to overcome it by trial and error, without having any idea why you solved it. Also, one of the rooms will be full of traps, so to overcome it we must avoid them until we reach the next one. In this one you don’t have to solve any puzzle or riddle, just try not to die in the traps. I guess this was done by the studio to give some variety to the title, but I think it went wrong, because due to the controls in the title, this piece is very hopeless.
Use your wit and ingenuity
We have already talked about the puzzles of the title, now it’s the turn of the controls and their gameplay. Our character has very few actions to perform, although we don’t need them either to face the adventure.. The game is first person, having the actions of running, jumping, picking up objects and, in a puzzle, shooting a weapon. We only have these few actions, with which we will have to solve all the tests of the adventure. Notably the control is very orthopedic, our character appears to be lame, walking very slowly, and although running is improving somewhat, he is not nimble enough. It wouldn’t be a problem if it weren’t for the room mentioned above, the one full of traps, where we will die many times due to poor control of our character.
lights and lots of shadows
Seven Doors is a very beautiful game, the settings are very well recreated and they are very beautiful. The truth is that the graphics section, for being a low budget title and with a very low price, $ 4.99 precisely, the game looks very good. In this aspect the game, at least in Series X, where I played it, is more than satisfactory. But this aspect also has its negative part, and this part is lighting. The game is also very dark. It is true that the lights and shadows are very well recreated, but the shadows are very dark, you can hardly see anything. The game looks so dark that I had to turn up the brightness of the TV because I was having trouble finding or seeing the items needed to solve the puzzles.
The sound aspect is correct without more. Much more could have been used, giving that touch of oppressive and sometimes disturbing atmosphere that the study tries to show. Because some rooms have a pretty bad vibe, like the one we can see in the picture we have above. Therefore, I think that aspect was somewhat spoiled, that if something more had been worked on, Seven Doors would have won integers. Despite this, we can’t say anything negative either, surely Indigo Studios did what they could with the small budget they surely had.
Seven Gates Conclusions
Seven Doors is a good puzzle game, maybe a bit short, but considering its price of only $4.99 it is more than justified. It’s a very beautiful game graphically and the atmosphere and setting of the title are fantastic. The puzzles are one in lime and the other in sand, there are some very ingenious and good ones and some that can be improved. Even with its hits and misses, it’s a totally recommended puzzle game for fans of this genre.
