The announcement of Metro 4 could take place at the Summer Game Fest 2025.

4a Games created one of the atmospheric and most popular series with the metro series.
In 2020 the studio confirmed 10th anniversary From Metro already the development of a direct successor to Metro Exodus.
Metro 4 is developed for PC and consoles of the 9th generation (PS5, Xbox Series X/S) and was promised as a “real next-gen experience” with revised engine.
In addition to improved graphics, more detailed environments and more realistic animations should follow. As early as 2023, the development was so far advanced that Metro 4 was supposedly completely playable.
No book as a template for Metro 4
While Metro Exodus offers several ends, the story of Metro 4 only builds on a “certain end”. (For spoiler reasons we have changed this passage.)
However, the next part will not be based directly on a book. Dmitry Glukhovsky, author of the original Metro books, works on the history of the next game, but there will be no new book template.
According to his own statement, Glukhovsky does not want to write any other metro books, but remains the games as an author. In the meantime, the game series has moved away from the books and tells their own story in the same universe.
Metro 4 gameplay and content
Together with new elements, Metro 4 promises to maintain the proven atmosphere and game mechanics.
Under Glukhovsky's artistic direction, many well-known places from Moscow will offer a detailed and atmospheric representation of the post-apocalyptic Russian capital.
Through the Return of the Hanse factionwhich was important in previous metro games, this creates interesting narrative and gameplay-related opportunities.
In addition to the classic single player experience, a multiplayer mode could be introduced for the first time.
So far, however, 4A Games has not communicated clearly whether the next Metro game will only have a multiplayer mode or both modes will be included in the same package.
In addition to previously unseen environments that are supposed to expand the game world significantly, Metro 4 of the classic formula with sneaks, crafting and resource collection remains loyal. Aryom, the previous protagonist, may no longer play the leading role.
Metro 4 announcement 2025 and publication 2026
Furthermore, the publication of the next main part remains an exciting topic.
So far, 4a Games has been covered with concrete statements about the release date and only emphasizes that the game appears “when it is finished”.
In view of the special circumstances, this careful communication strategy appears understandable. On February 15, 2024, the studio published one Beamon which the year of publication was given as “202”, with the last digit being deliberately made unrecognizable.
The structure of the pixelated area can be analyzed with the help of modern image editing software for sharpening and improvement in contrast.
The contours that become visible indicate a “6”, which suggests 2026 as a likely publication date.
Due to the past announcement pattern of the metro series, Metro 4 could be announced on the Summer Game Festival 2025 on June 6, 2025 and will be released in 2026.
