Backward compatibility is one of the most popular features of Xbox, as it gives us the ability to enjoy older games with higher resolution, new graphics options, and even performance improvements through options like FPS. Boost.
On November 15th, we received the last batch of backwards compatible to mark Xbox’s 20th anniversary, some with all of the features mentioned above. However, the most remarkable thing about Microsoft’s work is the second life that many of these games give them thanks to FPS Boost. A feature that for the moment will not be implemented in more games according to Jason Ronald, director of project management at Xbox.
In the short term, no more games will be updated with FPS Boost
Jason Ronald gave us new details about FPS Boost and its future after the backward compatibility program ends. Some statements made in an interview on Iron Lords Podcast.
We’re always looking for new ways to improve titles, whether it’s increasing resolution, improving frame rate, or things like Auto HDR. I will say that at the moment with the existing technique that we have with FPS Boost we have tested a lot more than titles with 130 FPS Boosted and in some cases the vast majority of the game is working just fine, but then we found a bug that breaks the game 80% of the way.
We will continue to look for new opportunities and new ways to improve titles, but we have nothing right now… At this point, I think we are finding out where some of the limitations of our current technique lie.
