Konami is probably auctioning Castlevania extras as NFTs for testing purposes. Bids are already at the equivalent of 180 US dollars.
Konami has on the OpenSea auction platform started an auction of Castlevania extras, where fans of the franchise can bid for 14 pictures, music pieces and other specials. According to the publisher, the reason is that the series celebrates its 35th birthday.
Although the auction was not scheduled to start until January 12, 2022, bidders are already offering bids. For a pixel graphic, for example, the equivalent of 180 US dollars is offered. The auction is expected to end on January 14, 2022, and will be exclusively in the crypto currency Ethereum. The new owners of the Castlevania NTFs will receive a digital certificate that allows them to sell the treasure they bought.
In a FAQ, Konami explains that after the Castlevania auction they will “continue to research new developments and respond to player feedback”. This could possibly mean that the Metal Gear franchise, which is also almost 35 years old, will be auctioned off as the next NTF auction.
“This is an initiative to create art NFTs with beloved in-game scenes from Konami titles and keep them for our fans for years to come.”
