The director of the highly anticipated game Obsidian Entertainment gives us more information on the title.
A title that caused a lot of talk this Sunday during the Xbox Games Showcase was Avowed. Obsidian Entertainment’s first performance suggested he had ambitions of becoming a AAA title. From what was presented on the Sunday show, seems to be more of an AAwhich explains why some players were disappointed with the idea they had.
Carrie Patel, game director of the title, was present at the Extended overview of Xbox games to offer more information about the game.
From the beginning, Carrie pointed out the similarities to Pillars of Eternity, another studio production, and that we already knew that the two licenses shared the same universe. However, the parallels are even more numerous. Characters and factions from the Pillars of Eternity will feature in Avowed, including the Aedyrian Empire. However, it is not necessary to have played the previous games to embark on the adventure.
The story takes place in the Living Lands, a remote part of Eora. The video presented on Sunday also shows a character who speaks to us. Carrie confirms that indeed, it’s a companion, in true studio style.
Unlike its predecessor, we will not embody a Watcher of the Gods. It is true that we will have a unique type of soul bond with the world, but our role is not simply divine. Not to mention the plague that spreads over these lands and contaminates the fauna and flora. Without going into too much detail, Carrie provides some facts about this disease.
Isometric view RPGs are known for having highly specialized characters in their field. Carrie Patel explains that I wanted to take this approach and adapt it to the gameplay imposed by the first person view.
Eventually, the length is closer to games like The Outer Worlds than Skyrim. Carrie explains that the title is not open world, but more “a series of interconnected open areas that players can explore at their own pace.”
Avowed is expected to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass in 2024.
