Hello, aspiring climber.
I’m Mateusz, PR Manager at Art Games Studio, here to tell you about the mountain adventure for the cold winter nights. We just published it Climber: The sky is the limit on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, so you can become an alpinist while sitting comfortably in front of your console!
Real life experience
Developing a realistic mountaineering simulation game requires enormous mountaineering knowledge that our team did not have. Therefore, to create the immersive experience, we teamed up with a member of the Polish national mountaineering team – Paweł Michalski.
His involvement in 19 expeditions in the Himalayas and Karakoram, as well as several dozen expeditions to lower peaks on all continents, greatly helped us in recreating these peaks in the game.
Paweł helped us introduce all the necessary equipment used during the expedition, explain its parameters and describe all the practical aspects and difficulties of the high mountain environment.
Preparation of the expedition
Like in real life, the successful expedition in Climber: The sky is the limit starts with the right preparation. To survive in the high mountains, you need the right equipment. Depending on the funds available, you can purchase items of different quality. Each piece of equipment improves your chances in different ways:
Clothing protects you from harsh weather conditions (increases your resistance to cold), allows for greater freedom of movement (increases your endurance), and uses lighter materials (reduces the overall weight of your gear).
Specialized equipment such as ice axes, ropes and leaders help you traverse varied terrain and overcome slippery terrain, vertical ice walls, crevasses, etc. However, be careful not to overwhelm yourself and only take what you need if you don’t want to exhaust yourself in the middle of the expedition.
When preparing, you must not forget about nutrition. Energy bars, lyophilized soups and others regenerate your stamina, your mental state and your nutritional parameters. Hot meals also replenish body temperature, but keep in mind that these must be prepared in camp.
Pack everything you need into your backpack, pay attention to your balance and you’re ready to go!
On the way
No matter which of the five eight-thousanders available in the game (Mount Everest, K2, Manaslu, Gasherbrum I, Cho Oyu) you choose, you start your expedition at the base camp. Then slowly work your way to the top, facing many challenges and harsh weather conditions along the way.
The key to success is a combination of careful planning and learning how to use the right equipment and when. You probably won’t succeed on the first try, but unlike real mountaineering, you can try again and again with your newfound knowledge.
Stay healthy
If you want to be successful and reach the peak, you need to pay attention to your health parameters:
- Endurance – Climber’s physical strength, indicates your ability to walk, run, jump, climb and move objects.
- Mental Health – your climber’s physical health and readiness to move forward. Risky actions such as sliding down frozen slopes or climbing crevasses quickly deplete the reserve.
- Temperature – Displays your climber’s body temperature, which depends on external weather conditions and your clothing. Adapting clothing to weather conditions is crucial because freezing means a brutal end to your expedition…
- Food – You have to eat to survive. If you don’t, your stamina will drop to zero extremely quickly, leaving you unable to progress. Not all foods are created equal, some are more filling than others and can boost your stamina, morale or heat you up.
Reach the summit
If you manage to overcome the challenges of the mountain and balance your health parameters, you will surely reach the top of the mountain, complete your sponsorship deal, get more money for your next expedition and increase your prestige as a climber!
That’s not all that awaits you in the game. For example, Climber: The sky is the limit Support and also the leaderboards for experienced mountaineers allow you to compare your summit times with those of other alpinists around the world!
See you upstairs!

Climber: Sky is the Limit is a mountain hiking simulator game in which you, as a climber, climb the most difficult and dangerous peaks in the world. To be successful, you must plan your trip carefully by preparing the right equipment, choosing a suitable path, facing extreme weather conditions and surviving. Overcome your limitations, overcome your fear and reach heaven. REACH THE PEAK Every expedition is different and the route to the summit is a great challenge. Overcome your fear, face your limits and reach the summit. To achieve this: Cross dangerous paths using special equipment such as ice picks, lifelines or carabiners. BEWARE OF DANGERS During the journey, you will encounter various obstacles such as snowstorms, abysses, vertical walls, steep slopes, icy slopes and crevasses. The key to success is to plan your next steps wisely and use the right equipment at the right time. PLAN YOUR EXPEDITION Before you set off, decide which route to the summit is best, taking into account the weather conditions and weather windows. Sometimes it’s better to take a risk and choose a more difficult route, but this way you can reach the summit before a snowstorm. SURVIVAL The key to survival is having appropriate tools when you need them. Each piece of equipment has its weight, but it also makes your next step more difficult. Make sure you have enough food to regain your strength or that you have a warm jacket and sleeping bag to warm up after a day-long climb. Good timing also plays a big role during the expedition. In high mountains, where the weather changes quickly and night falls very quickly, you should plan in advance to set up camp in the right place so that you can recover before the next challenging day.
