Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick sent the following email to his employees on Monday.
Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard was approved by the EU yesterday. As a result, Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios will continue to grow with a successful acquisition by Activision Blizzard once the remaining hurdles in the CMA and FTC process have been cleared.
Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick sent the following email to his employees on Monday following the EU’s announcement that it would approve the acquisition:
“Today we reached an important milestone: the European Commission (EC), one of the most thorough and respected regulators in the world, approved our merger with Microsoft. This decision underscores the benefits our transaction offers to stakeholders and the competition.”
“Caring regulators in numerous other countries have already approved the merger. By joining them today, the European Commission has once again demonstrated its rigorous, fair and prudent approach to creating appropriate regulatory guardrails that ensure competition in key growth industries.”
“Microsoft has agreed to terms as part of the EC approval, including licenses for legal cloud gaming providers to stream Activision Blizzard games and enforcement mechanisms that ensure compliance with these regulatory obligations.”
“This important step provides regulators around the world with an appropriate roadmap to consider when deciding how best to encourage competition in the gaming industry.”
“There is still work to be done before our merger can be completed, but it is encouraging that regulators such as the European Commission understand and appreciate the significant growth opportunities our industry offers.”
“Thank you for your patience as we work to promote fair, free trade, healthy competition and wider recognition for the extraordinary work our people do every day to help hundreds of millions of people around the world to entertain.”
