Microsoft flight simulator is Microsoft’s longest running gaming franchise. Today we are happy to announce that renowned sim company Carenado has released an incredibly detailed Carenado C170B add-on for use in. released Microsoft flight simulator.
Carenado (Spanish for disguise) based in Santiago, Chile, was founded in 2001 by two friends who were inspired by Microsoft flight simulator, a game they started playing together on Atari computers in the 1980s. In the meantime, they have built a powerful portfolio of more than 100 breathtakingly recreated aircraft – the legendary C170B is the latest in the product range.
Carenado wanted to develop a Sim version of the C170B to thrive in the beautiful world Microsoft and its partners built into the latest version of Microsoft Flight Simulator. The C170B, affectionately known as “The Skyhawk’s Daddy” in aviation circles, is a renowned “low and slow” aircraft, and Carenado found it a perfect vehicle to explore the virtual world of Microsoft flight simulator.
Introduced in 1952, the four-seat, single-engine stern tug was developed from earlier versions of the 170 family, including the 170A and the military variant, the L-19 / O-1 Bird Dog. It was the predecessor of the 172 Skyhawk, hence its nickname. The aircraft quickly became known for its wide range of uses, catering to the needs of private pilots, commuters, freight carriers, flight schools, and bush pilots who have taken the aircraft on some truly remarkable adventures in some of the wildest countries on earth.
The 170B features an all-metal construction, a high main wing span of 36 feet, and slotted flaps that deflect up to 40 degrees. It is powered by a six-cylinder Continental C145-2 engine that has an output of up to 145 hp and drives a two-bladed propeller. The 170B cruises at 120 mph, has a top speed of 143 mph and a stall speed of 52 mph. Its ceiling is 5,500 feet above sea level and climbs at 690 feet per minute. What’s impressive is that in most situations it only takes 200 feet of reel to get into the air and has a range of 750 miles.
Carenado offers two types of the 170B, a normal and a Tundra model. The Tundra model has large tundra tires and can take off and land on beaches, river sandbanks and deep in mountain valleys – suitable anywhere, no airport required! The company uses physics-based rendering (PBR) for maximum realism, inside and out, realistic flight dynamics (tested by a number of pilots familiar with the C170B), and hi-fi stereo acoustics recorded by the aircraft itself, including the noise of switches, motors, buttons, even the draft of air when a window is opened.
It comes with six paint jobs, a portable Garmin Aera GPS color module for moving maps, a King KX-165 NAV / COMM radio with glideslope, and a King KT-76A transponder. Simmers can experience Carenados C170B in the cold, in the dark, ready to roll or ready to go. It even has a tablet interface for controlling static elements, pilots, panels and doors.
The Carenado C170B is available from today on the Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace. Heaven is calling! For the latest information on Microsoft flight simulator, stay tuned @MSFSOfficial on Twitter and Xbox Wire.
