In an interview, PlayStation creator Ken Kutagari discusses his stance on VR and the acclaimed Metaverse.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg PlayStation creator Ken Kutagari has shared some interesting information about his stance on VR and the much-hyped Metaverse. Kutagari was one of the masterminds behind Sony’s PlayStations 1, 2 and 3, but is now the CEO of Tokyo-based robotics company Ascent Robotics.
Kutagari spoke about not liking the VR technology at the moment as the headsets are too clunky which he thinks makes it quite annoying. Also, the fact that they completely isolate the user from the real world bot hers them.
“Headsets would isolate you from the real world and I don’t condone that,” he said. “Headsets are just annoying.”
Kutagari also thinks negatively towards the Metaverse because, in his opinion, existence in this virtual world doesn’t really make sense. He also says it’s very similar to anonymous messageboard sites, where users can hide their true personality behind usernames.
“Being in the real world is very important, but the Metaverse is about being quasi-real in the virtual world, and I don’t see the point of that. It’s basically nothing more than anonymous message board sites.”
