A scary story trailer has been released for Death Relives, which tells you the release window.
Death Relives will be released in the first quarter of 2024 and plans to strike fear into your hearts. The game could already be played last summer at the ID at Xbox Demo Fest 2023.
Death Relives is inspired by Aztec mythology and real historical events from the 16th century. The game immerses players in a nightmarish world where players attempt to survive from long-forgotten gods.
As they battle with Xipe Totec, the god of death, life, rebirth, agriculture, vegetation and deadly warfare in Aztec mythology, players will also find themselves in real historical locations, such as the ship carrying Hernán Cortés traveled to the land of the Aztecs.
The dark and eerie atmosphere of Death Relieves also hides other beings lurking in the shadows, which are revealed in the rich story as Adrian, our protagonist, progresses through the game.
Death Relives resurrects ancient Aztec horrors that require special items to overcome. The game’s unique combat and stealth mechanics require the effective use of these items throughout the journey. In the fight against the ancient gods of the Aztecs, however, it is not enough to kill their souls and send them to Mictlan, the underworld of Aztec mythology.
“As a horror fan, I am very excited about the release of Death Relives. We have worked tirelessly to create a game that will captivate horror fans, and the feedback we have received from audiences has been invaluable,” said Bahtiyar Ardin, co-founder and creative director of Nyctophile Studios.
“While working on my first game, I focused on creating a unique atmosphere for the players. To do this we had to work with a team from Mexico to set Xipe Totec to music in the native Nahuatl language and try to find a death whistle online. In a few months we will be ready to share this amazing experience with our players around the globe.”
Death Relives will be available in four difficulty levels, offering players who want to focus more on the story the option to turn off jump scares.
The game also allows players to replace the sound of the death whistle with another instrument, after some of the testers stated that they experienced unusual, extreme discomfort while playing the game.
