In November 2020, one of the games launched best rated of the year, although it was not new; Rather, it was the remake of the classic Demon’s Souls by Bluepoint, a title first released in 2009 with Hidetaka Miyazaki at the helm. This remake has received rave reviews for a good job done, improving and updating its graphics and improving combat with added fluidity thanks to current consoles.
This launch was a big blow to the development of Elden Ring, since its graphics – which is never the strong point of this style of play – was something concise at the time, and they felt compelled to improve it even more to reach certain standards.
Miyazaki had to get to work improving Elden Ring’s graphics
In a recent interview for Edge magazine, Elden Ring director and current president of FromSoftware, Hidetaka Miyazaki, talks about the development of his next version, which marked the release of the Demon’s Souls remake and some of its regrets.
Yes, I’m pretty sure our mapping staff felt that pressure more than anyone. And not just with the Elden Ring, but with all the games we make. Graphic fidelity is not something we prioritize. What we ask for on the graphics side depends on the systems and requirements of the game itself, and has a lower priority compared to other development elements.
So this is always an area where I regret my graphics team a bit because I know they work so hard. And they’ve worked really hard at Elden Ring – our graphics team and programmers pushed a lot of new features to create the most engaging games yet.
Elden Ring will be launched next February 25 2022 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, PS4, PS5 and PC. In addition, we leave you our first impressions after testing its closed beta in November.
