Greetings, wise and attractive administrator.
I am Jean-Luc, Community Manager for Desktop Dungeons: Rewindhere to give you some advice on building your kingdom and dungeon diving.
The Rundown
Desktop Dungeons: Rewind is a turn-based roguelike where every move counts. Each dungeon has a boss (or several) that you must defeat to return to your kingdom with the loot. Resources are limited, but everything is a resource.
Exploring the darkness heals you and your enemies. The amount healed depends on the level of the heal. This is your main way to restore health and mana, so save when possible!
The boss is the target. You’ll need plenty of firepower to defeat them, so be ready to hit as hard as you can with items, conversions, and level-ups when fighting them!
Your kinship and class change the way you play. Halflings pump you full of magic potions, while goblins boost your experience points. Wizards hurl spells, while berserkers drive the will to live out of their enemies.
Effective Dungeoneering
OK, but how do we get the most out of our resources? Good question! Check this out.
Fight enemies at higher levels. In video games, fight enemies to gain XP. Yes, knowledge. Fight stronger enemies? Get stronger XP. That’s right! Simple. Enemies are limited, so it’s important to get the most out of them.
Convert items you no longer need. Converting an item or glyph destroys it, but earns you conversion points! Once you reach a certain number of conversion points, you receive a bonus based on your Kin.
Leveling up is important. Not only to avoid being turned to mush by a particularly angry goat in the long run, but also to fully restore health and mana! Leveling up also removes the poison and mana burn conditions.
Kingdom Cultivation
Now that I have the bone of this insatiably violent goblin, what should I do with it? Sell it for money! What should I do with the money? A statue!* Or upgrade buildings.
New classes! The base classes can be unlocked in any order, but I would recommend choosing the Wizard as your first class at level 2. The developers didn’t know what to do with it, it’s so broken*.
New relatives! Once you’re rescued from the dungeons, you can build a settlement for new relatives to move into your kingdom and volunteer to serve in the realm. After all, you can’t spell “kingdom” without “memory.” Wait…
Preparations! After upgrading the guild, you can send your adventurers into dungeons with better equipment. You have to pay for it, but it is very worth it.
fine print
Okay, that’s all the rough advice we have for you, admin. You’re a smart guy* and should be ready to play now Desktop Dungeons: RewindHere are some simple strategies to complement your slaughter of innocent monsters:
If in doubt, solve the puzzles! These brain teasers explain some of the game’s more advanced concepts in a low-stakes environment. What do these statuses mean? Attack order? Slow? Salami*?
Check your code! The Codex is accessible from the pause menu and contains all the information you need. Details on Kin, classes, bosses, badges – everything you could possibly need.
Complete the class challenges! Class Challenges include a touch of lore and are the perfect place to discover the strengths and weaknesses of a new class.
Keep an eye out for quests! These quests will help you improve your kingdom. From killing soul-sucking vampires to expanding your bank account to completing complicated tasks for a cat, the rewards are plentiful.
Keep going! The beginning of this game is pretty easy, but the difficulty increases, requiring you to master new systems (we haven’t even talked about gods or popcorn in this article!). You’ll probably die and have to restart a dungeon at some point. That’s the developer’s fault, not yours. Remember, play the damn puzzles!
That’s all I have for you today! Good luck out there in the realm of Desktop Dungeons: Rewind!
Much love from me and the QCF design team.
