Experience a sci-fi adventure in a new solar system with Beyond Galaxyland.
Indie publisher United Label today announced Beyond Galaxyland, a 2.5D adventure RPG set among the stars.
Developed by Chicago-based developer and music producer Sam Enright, the adventure inspired by a classic sci-fi film is scheduled to release later in 2024 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
Shortly before the catastrophic destruction of Earth by an unknown celestial destroyer of worlds known only as “The End,” high school student Doug is kidnapped to Galaxyland – an idyllic, zoo-like solar system of planets.
But is this so-called paradise really as beautiful as it seems? Along with his gun-toting guinea pig Boom Boom, a sentient robot named MartyBot, and a whole host of equally crazy companions, Doug embarks on a galactic quest to discover the truth behind Galaxyland and somehow reverse his Earth’s apocalypse.
In Beyond Galaxyland, an all-new take on the popular RPG adventures of yore, players flip across many different planets, flying through teeming jungles, neon-lit cities and cybernetic casinos. Beyond Galaxyland combines classic platforming and puzzle-solving with an addictive, active turn-based combat system and epic boss fights against the universe’s most wanted.
characteristics
- Active, turn-based combat: Engage in strategic, turn-based battles against a variety of galactic enemies, with time-based, defensive gameplay to minimize damage. Each party member has a unique set of abilities, but for an added tactical advantage, you can secretly scan your opponent before battle to discover their strengths and weaknesses.
- Interplanetary exploration: From the blizzard-ravaged plains of Arcos to the tropical jungle canyons of Erros, from the neon-lit cities of Neo to the arid sand dunes of Xalm, explore a cosmic collection of unique worlds, each with their own quests, environmental puzzles and supernatural characters.
- A classic sci-fi adventure: A 2.5D semi-open-ended adventure RPG set in a classic sci-fi fish-out-of-water story that pays homage to family-friendly adventure and sci-fi films. The story of Beyond Galaxyland is one of laughter, loss, danger and friendship, all immersed in a dazzling layer of neon-tastic pixels.
- Epic boss fights: Encounter 25 epic bosses on your numerous extraterrestrial journeys, including colossal space dragons, flesh-eating flowers, and the all-knowing bionic behemoth, the Nexus Mind.
Capture and Use Enemies: Successfully capture the many strange and wonderful creatures you encounter on the various worlds and later use them in the heat of battle.
“I’m a huge fan of classic turn-based role-playing games from the mid- and late-1990s, and some of my favorites – like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VII – provided me with a galaxy of inspiration when developing Beyond Galaxyland,” said Sam Enright. “I wanted to create a game that felt uniquely cinematic while also being set in a familiar genre. I hope that when players play it, they will appreciate that the pacing of Beyond Galaxyland often feels more like a movie than a video game. The adventures of Doug, Boom Boom and MartyBot in and beyond Galaxyland are a very personal story to me, and I can’t wait for people to experience their intergalactic story!”
Darren Newnham, CEO of United Label, said: “We are thrilled to be able to release Sam’s passion project later this year and share the incredible story of Doug and Boom Boom with the world… if not the universe. He has created a compelling and intimate sci-fi story that goes beyond the grueling gameplay that characterizes some turn-based RPGs while incorporating classic platforming gameplay.”
Beyond Galaxyland will be released later in 2024 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4|5 and Nintendo Switch.
