A few days after the early access launch of The Day BEfore, developer Fntastic is going out with a big bang and announcing its closure.
On December 7th, The Day Before entered Early Access on Steam. Today, just four days later, Fntastic announces the closure of the studio.
The closure is the result of a disastrous launch for the survival MMO, which received a wave of negative reviews on Steam with more than 10,000 reviews.
As the developer informs in a statement, the studio lacks further financial resources to continue and exploit the game’s full potential with patches.
The statement says:
“Today we announce the closure of Fntastic Studio. Unfortunately, The Day Before has failed financially and we lack the resources to continue. All proceeds will be used to pay off debts to our partners.”
“We put all of our efforts, resources and man-hours into developing The Day Before, which was our first major game.”
“We really wanted to release new patches to unlock the game’s full potential, but unfortunately we don’t have the resources to continue the work.”
“It is important to note that during the development of The Day Before we did not accept any money from the public; there were no pre-orders or crowdfunding campaigns. We have worked tirelessly for five years, putting our blood, sweat and tears into the game.”
“At the moment, the future of The Day Before and Propnight is still uncertain, but the servers will continue to operate.”
“We apologize if we did not meet your expectations. We did everything we could, but unfortunately we misjudged our options. Skills miscalculated. Game development is an incredibly challenging endeavor.”
