IO Interactive has revealed details about Project 007, including the hope of turning it into a trilogy.
Hakan Abrak revealed new information about Project 007 in an interview. According to the head of IO Interactive, the development of the “James Bond origin story” is going “astonishingly well”.
Furthermore, the project is completely developed, published and financed by IO Interactive.
Abrak also expressed excitement at the prospect of making his own original story with a James Bond created from scratch. It is hoped that this beginning and story can be developed into a trilogy.
Abrak told IGN: “We feel like 20 years of training for the spy fantasy, creating an agent who travels around the world and is a globetrotter and so on, has given us a certain know-how. But James Bond is of course a completely different IP. It’s a huge IP. It’s not our IP. In fact, it is the first IP that is not inherently our own IP.
“But the exciting thing about this project is that we were actually able to develop an original story. So it’s not a gamification of a film. It’s a complete beginning and becomes a story, hopefully for a big trilogy out there in the future.”
“And equally important and exciting is that it’s a new Bond. It’s a Bond we built from the ground up for gamers. It’s extremely exciting to be working with the family to create a young Bond for gamers, with all the tradition and history there is; a Bond that gamers can call their own and grow with.”
Abrak still sees the fact that James Bond’s IP was given as a strength, after all, the last game was 15 years ago and is therefore not overrated.
“If we look at the films, it is one of the three most important IPs out there, it is extremely strong, also because the last game was almost 15 years ago. So a long time has passed. It’s definitely something that isn’t overrated in the gaming world. We see that as a strength, that we can do something really special and hopefully… There are a lot of people out there who think GoldenEye is the classic. And I love this game too,” says Abrak.
“I don’t want to give too much away, but I just hope we make something that will define James Bond for years to come. And that’s not just a game, it’s that we’re creating a universe that players will own for years to come and that we can grow alongside the Bond from the films.”
