The studio, creator of Psychonauts 2, explores new ideas and visual styles while working on multiple projects.
Double Fine, in a recent blog post, comments that he is working on several new projects. Earlier this year, Double Fine boss Tim Schafer said the team wanted to work on something original and “completely unbelievable.” He also highlighted the need for the team to immerse themselves in new ideas and concepts after spending so much time focusing on Psychonauts 2
“The studio is already divided into several teams and they are launching different projects which we think they will like. We love to experiment. Each game is an opportunity to explore new ideas, new visual or gameplay styles, emotions and more. “

Schafer praises the studio’s situation after Microsoft acquired Double Fine in 2019. He says they have as much creative freedom as they want. No one limited them in the development of Psychonauts 2 to guide decisions or anything like that. They were allowed to handle the creative side entirely, but going for the other side of all of the Xbox Game Studios resources.
“Now we’ve had so much creative freedom,” Schafer said. “No one has investigated Psychonauts to guess our decisions or anything like that. We’ve been tasked with completely handling the creative side, but we can opt for all of these resources that Xbox Game Studios has to offer, such as accessibility controls. and mental health tests.
