Recently, Electronic Arts has been the focus of all controversy because of its lootbox system. To get players into FIFA Ultimate Team mode, the most effective solution is to buy a package, a virtual item with players selected at random. So you could have Cristiano Ronaldo or … Adil Rami. It is therefore comparable to the lottery, which bothers many international bodies.
To compensate for this, the American publisher had already brought a counter for the hours and money spent, with which the players can set their limits. This Friday, June 18th, EA decided to go even further and introduce new loot boxes, so-called preview packs. These are not classic packs as it is now possible to see what you would get in them if you bought it. That’s what happens.
As you can see, an eye symbol shows you when a pack is compatible. Then if you click A, you can see what’s in it. You have not yet spent the requested amount to receive it. After that, you can see the following menu.
In this particular case, 25,000 Credits or 350 FIFA Points must be spent to get the above players. If you think they aren’t worth the price, you can go back. You can always change your mind and pay the requested amount as long as the package is available. So that you cannot abuse the system, if you refuse to pay the purchase price, you must wait for the deadline shown in the picture above (here 23 hours and 59 minutes). EA put this limit in place to prevent you from opening many packs and choosing which ones to take. Therefore, the best way to get very good players remains the classic solution, which consists of buying in large numbers (which can cost you dearly).
This new feature will be available until the end of the Festival of FUTball event. Classic packages should return after this date. EA did not state why this feature was introduced. However, one cannot help thinking that the American publisher did so under pressure from governments and gambling authorities. It could therefore be that this system will become permanent in the next few years FIFA, maybe soon FIFA 22.
