Edge of Eternity, the game that started as a modest KickstarterNow, that seems like a much more ambitious and refined project. The extra hours that have been in development have really done the game good.
If we look back, this title was intended for the latest generation consoles, and I’m not talking about Xbox One X or PS4 Pro, we have to go back to the Fat model of Xbox One and PS4.
Xbox Series X and Playstation 5
The point is that with the new consoles it opens up a world of possibilities for them which they obviously didn’t have before and in a recent interview they shared their thoughts on the new generation of consoles. in space, they rent the CPU of the new machines.
New generation consoles are awesome. For independent developers, this gives us a processor powerful enough that we don’t spend our time optimizing all the little details to save a few milliseconds to hit the performance budget. The GPU is also very powerful, but now we’re supposed to do 4K 60 FPS, and sometimes with raytracing, which is a real challenge for independent developers.
As for the details that emerge from each machine, in the case of the PS5, the haptic vibrators on Xbox Series remain with support for DirectML and machine learning.
For the PS5, it’s clearly the adaptive triggers combined with advanced haptics. It really brings a new level of immersion to the game.
For Xbox Series X, this is DirectML support. I don’t think it’s been used much yet, but machine learning will allow for some impressive performance improvements (super ML resolution), style transfers for new art styles, pop-up games, etc.
