Talking about GOTY or one of the year’s releases in early March might sound a little pretentious, but not for Elden Ring. FromSoftware’s new game has been unanimously acclaimed by many media and gamers alike as one of the best releases of recent years.
Obviously, the launch had some bugs, but that didn’t stop many players from enjoying them while the studio works to fix them. In fact, the game just achieved something not every game can do, and that is that it became the sixth most played game in Steam history.
Elden Ring is a firm contender to be this year’s GOTY
In just over a week, Elden Ring managed to rack up 952,523 concurrent players. This has all the more merit precisely because FromSoftware games, as I said, have a very specific audience, and with this figure it replaced Amazon’s MMO New World, which at its height reached 913,027 concurrent players.
There’s still plenty to go and along the way I’m sure many games will come that will be a complete hit, but no one can deny that Elden Ring has plenty of ballots to be the GOTY of the present 2022.
