The European Commission, the European Union’s regulator, has announced that it is opening an in-depth investigation into Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The said Commission specifies that it is a “phase 2” in its analysis of the agreement, and that it stems, in large part, from concerns about competition in the marketplace fueled by competition.
“The Commission is concerned that the proposed acquisition could reduce competition in the markets for the distribution of video games for consoles and personal computers (“PC”) and PC operating systems”

This investigation comes in light of reports earlier this month. And Pintends to elucidate, as part of Microsoft’s agreement to acquire Activision Blizzard, why those in Redmond did not meet the deadline to present their responses and solutions to the concerns that the EU transmitted to them about the agreement.
The UK regulator also conducted its own investigations into the takeover. This is due to fears that the merger will mean less competition between gaming platform owners. Microsoft has made no secret of its discomfort with these concerns, saying Sony’s refusal to allow Game Pass on PlayStation is hurting the market.
Undoubtedly, the problem has many edges and Microsoft faces many obstacles. In Area Xbox we hope that Microsoft has prepared all its arsenal, to end up making the deal a reality.
