Microsoft’s ID@Xbox program will become even more accessible to indie developers in the future.
At the Game Developers Conference 2024, Microsoft talked about the ID@Xbox program and how it wants to make it easier for independent game developers to publish games on the platform in the future.
The survival hit Palworld, whose developer Pocket Pair is currently the flagship candidate for the ID@XboX-The program has just surpassed ten million players on Xbox, giving Microsoft the console’s most successful month ever in January.
ID@Xbox allows developers to both develop and publish games directly on the Xbox platform using two development kits.
Over 3,500 titles have been implemented so far and now Microsoft has introduced the pitch portal and that Indie Selects program More specifically, two programs that are intended to give developers and players more opportunities to better live out their enthusiasm for indie titles.
The pitch portal allows indie developers to easily submit games from anywhere and propose them for the Xbox Game Pass and the Developer Acceleration Program. Hundreds of titles have been submitted since it started in August 2023.
The Indie Selects program, which has been available in the Xbox Store since January, honors six indie titles every month with the Indie Selects Award and presents them to the player. This award committee also includes a certain Phil Spencer. According to Microsoft, the aim of this feature is primarily to focus on indies that are not necessarily found in Xbox Game Pass.
To ensure that more games are available for selection for an award in the future, Microsoft is working with developers around the world and trying to better support regions that are less represented.
