Sonic vuelve with his rival Shadow and Sonic X Shadow Generations.
I’m not the biggest Sonic fan, but I’ve played a few levels from the older Sonic games, like Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Megadrive or full titles like Sonic Adventure on my beloved Nintendo GameCube. Despite this, Sonic is undoubtedly one of the most important video game characters. The beloved blue hedgehog usually never leaves alone, as he is sometimes accompanied by other characters from the saga like Tails or Amy. I’m not very familiar with the entire Sonic family of characters and what I do know is limited. But when it was announced that Sonic X Shadow Generations would be presented at the Tokyo Game Show in 2024, I was curious. And after trying it, it’s as fun as the other Sonic games I’ve played.
When I see a game like Sonic X Shadow Generations, the only question I have is whether it will satisfy my desire to play Sonic games for years to come. The answer is yes. The TGS 2024 demo we got to try starts off strong, showing two iconic Sonic levels: Green Hill and Chemical Plant in 2.5D remakes and full 3D conversions.. Even though it was something I had already seen in the first Sonic Generations, playing the levels in Sonic X Shadow Generations is a good reminder to find out why they are so fun.
The Green Hill scene is a fantastic start to the demo. Helps new, and in this case returning, players learn the basic mechanics of the game while running at full speed. In contrast, the new version of Chemical Plant shows the types of paths and obstacles that players will encounter throughout the game. Then, when we launch into the 3D remakes of the levels, we find these same concepts, but in a new environment.. It’s extremely fun, keeps the speed and action going at all times, and is perfect for casual fans or those who no longer play games in the series, like me.
But,what about Shadow’s content from the perspective of someone who doesn’t know much about the character?? Although the TGS 2024 demo included a selection of Shadow levels, I only had time to try Space station. This level has a very interesting theme and design, as well as the number of opportunities to kill enemies or move around by jumping over railings and sliding down. It reminded me of Sonic Adventures type gameplay.which made me love it and wish I could play it again. Sonic and Shadow’s basic controls are similar in 3D sections. This made accessing Shadow content much easier, as I didn’t have to learn a new control scheme.
Sonic Sonic X Shadow Generations will arrive on Xbox Series X|S on October 25, 2024. It can be pre-ordered now and there will be a three-day early access period starting October 22.
