Atomic Heart‘s Facility 3826 is located in the mountain ranges of Kazakhstan. With the help of construction robots, these vast areas quickly became a conglomerate of classified scientific complexes. These buildings contrast starkly with the small rural villages that surround the site, but it won’t be long before more complexes pop up.
There are many impressive monuments on the grounds of Facility 3826 – from giant statues to Stella monuments erected by robots. Few know that the true wonder of robotics lies deep underground.
The facility follows one rule: “Real progress lies precisely in the confluence of the basic sciences, because that is how nature works – everything is intertwined.”
Each complex has its unique architectural style and interior shaped by its research needs, but they also have standardized technical nodes and elements for staff convenience. It is worth noting that the VDNH and theater complexes are very different from the rest. Access to them is not only reserved for scientists, but is also open to ordinary citizens, provided they have permission to visit the facility.
Open-world locations are often bathed in sunlight with clear skies and a touch of refreshing breeze. This is the first impression you get when visiting Facility 3826; its obverse shows the bright, almost utopian future. However, you get a completely different impression when you look behind the scenes of the human dreams of this world. You’ll quickly understand there’s trouble in paradise as you venture through cold, gloomy corridors, spooky laboratories, and automated workshops riddled with enemy robots. There are many parallels between the graphics, the level design and the story. Atomic Heart invites you to use your imagination, think and ponder, the result will not only enrich your experience, but also help you survive.
The game’s events begin in the city of Chelomey, a fortress of science literally floating in the sky.
Down in the foothills, Facility 3826 extends for many kilometers and includes many underground complexes, laboratories, research centers, scientific areas and civic facilities, both surface and underground.
The plant resembles a mushroom tree, with each one connected to the other in one way or another.
Following the narrative, the protagonist explores each location one at a time, delving deeper into the lives and livelihoods of the locals and finding out what is really being developed and happening behind the closed doors of the facility’s secret laboratories.
As you move around the open world, you will enter different locations, such as research sites, small villages, or surveillance stations.
A map of the area guides you in your locomotion, and you can use the vehicles of employees who have fallen victim to robots to move faster. Some people’s stories will be closer to hand: literally each complex or village is steeped in individual life stories of scientists and staff, adding quality to the game’s world, setting, and lore. Thanks to the messages and records left behind, you can reconstruct these plans and learn what life was like in these countries before the fateful events.
If you’re a completer (or resource lover), note that the surface requires just as much exploration as the subterranean complexes. There are many scientific shooting ranges around the world, the passageways of which are carefully hidden.
Exploring such proving grounds is not required, but rare and extremely useful resources, documentation, and blueprints can be found there.
